Job description

Role Overview:

As the Head of Spanish Department, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of talented educators, drive the development of the Spanish curriculum, and foster a positive and collaborative teaching environment. In addition to your leadership duties, you will also be responsible for teaching Spanish to students across various age groups, ensuring they receive high-quality lessons that engage, challenge, and support their language development.

Key Responsibilities:

Department Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the Spanish department, providing guidance and support to colleagues.
  • Ensure the department delivers a high standard of teaching and learning.
  • Monitor and assess the progress and performance of students within the department.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and initiatives.
  • Oversee curriculum development and the alignment of Spanish courses with national standards.
  • Manage department resources, including textbooks, digital resources, and other materials.
  • Promote extracurricular activities related to Spanish, such as clubs, trips, or cultural events.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons across different year groups.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Prepare students for exams and assessments, ensuring they reach their full potential.
  • Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support.
  • Contribute to the development of school-wide initiatives and teaching programs.
  • Act as a role model for students in terms of academic and behavioural standards.

Requirements:

  • A qualified teacher with a degree in Spanish, Modern Languages, or a related subject.
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in teaching Spanish across multiple age groups, including KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable).
  • Previous experience as a Head of Department or in a leadership role within a department is preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • A passion for the Spanish language and culture, and a commitment to promoting languages in the school community.
  • High level of organizational and time-management skills.
