Job description

A neighbourhood fixture in the heart of Islington, Bellanger is a lively café, restaurant and bar, serving brunch, lunch and supper dishes inspired by the coastal regions of the Mediterranean, as well as a selection of brasserie classics.


The restaurant combines elegant period detailing with a relaxed layout and a generous pewter-topped bar at its heart. Its characterful interior is an ideal setting for weekend brunch, a leisurely lunch or supper and cocktails.

The role of Sous Chef:

  1. Cooking seasonal classic European cuisine, using quality fresh ingredients
  2. Helping to lead busy services, ensuring that all company standards are maintained
  3. All aspects of kitchen management to include ordering, stock control, people management and development
  4. Working as part of a professional team within a highly organised, well-equipped kitchen
  5. Being an integral part of the wider kitchen management team
  6. Contributing ideas towards seasonal changing menus and weekly specials
  7. An average of 50 hours per week (mixture of shifts)

What we’re looking for in a Sous Chef:

  1. Managerial experience as a Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef within a similar standard hospitality setting
  2. An interest and knowledge of classical techniques
  3. Competent knowledge of Food Safety and Health & Safety legislation
  4. Exposure to back office procedures including human resources, stock control and payroll management would be beneficial
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. A track record of leadership and development, or for the right candidate, a strong appetite to hone those skills
  7. To communicate effectively with all departments in the spirit of the company values
  8. An ability to listen and successfully relay your own ideas and opinions
  9. To lead positively and promote a sense of collaboration and professionalism
  10. The desire to strive for excellence and inspire others
  11. Superior levels of product knowledge
