Job description

Company Description

Legal & General is one of Europe's largest asset managers, providing clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, across public and private markets. As a global investor, we are present where our clients most need us - from Hong Kong and Singapore, to Chicago and major European financial hubs.

Created by combining our investment management (LGIM) and asset origination (LGC) capabilities, our Asset Management division works with our Institutional Retirement and Retail divisions to benefit our clients and customers - which include individual savers, pension scheme members and global institutions - and deliver enhanced shareholder returns.

Joining us means becoming part of a market-leading team, with capabilities across the full spectrum of asset classes, with an enduring commitment to responsible investment and creating long-term, sustainable value for our clients and partners.

Job Description

We're recruiting for a Solicitor to join us. We're offering a competitive base salary, plus car allowance. You will be supporting the Head of Legal (Distribution) in delivering a first class legal service to the Distribution function of the L&G Asset Management division.

You will be providing assistance on a wide range of legal issues that affect the L&G Asset Management business, predominantly relating to the distribution internationally of our public & private market funds, and the negotiation of segregated investment management agreements (IMAs).

You will be expected to work with a high degree of energy, proactiveness and accountability. You will need to be motivated, resilient and enjoy challenges. An ability to explain complex legal and regulatory concepts to non-lawyers will be crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising on and negotiating IMAs for large institutional investors
  • Advising on, drafting and negotiating material agreements related to the distribution of L&G private & public market funds
  • Being the legal representative to stakeholders within the business relating to all distribution related matters
  • Drafting, negotiating and amending client-facing agreements, particularly for international clients
  • Drafting, negotiating and amending all service provider contracts relating to the marketing and distribution of funds
  • Providing assistance and legal support to all our European and Asia offices, particularly in relation to the distribution of our products and services
  • Assisting on ad hoc projects (internationally or firm-wide)
Qualifications

Who we're looking for:
  • Solicitor / lawyer qualified in England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland or in a jurisdiction in the European Union
  • 4+ years PQE, with relevant training and experience gained in private practice or in-house
  • Excellent technical knowledge of legal issues relating to the distribution of investment funds and the negotiation of segregated IMAs, with specific experience of private funds being particularly advantageous
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to deal with senior stakeholders across the business
  • Language proficiency in Italian or German would be a bonus, but not required
Benefits

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
  • Generous pension contribution
  • Life assurance
  • Private medical insurance (permanent employees only)
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years' service. There's also the option to buy and sell holiday
  • Competitive family leave
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice
  • There are the many discounts we offer - both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
  • In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart
