Head of Matrimonial / Private Family Law

Location: Stratford upon Avon - with free parking provided

Salary: c£70,000 per annum, negotiable commensurate with experience

We are working in partnership with a leading multi-office Midlands law firm who are seeking a Head of Department for their Matrimonial / Private Family team based in Stratford upon Avon.

The law firm specializes in residential conveyancing, wills, trusts, probate, and family law work including divorce, pre and post-nuptial agreements, financial disputes upon separation and divorce, and disputes regarding children.

This role would suit a fully qualified solicitor or chartered legal executive with a wealth of experience in matrimonial / privately funded family law.

This role has come about due to the current Department Head taking a step down, so you will be taking on an existing caseload and will be well-supported in the handover. You will also have ample opportunity to take on new business and get involved in marketing the family law services, building new professional relationships to increase revenue.

The role will involve:

  1. Managing a matrimonial caseload
  2. Providing expert family law advice to clients to include divorce, financial, and children matters
  3. Drafting pre-nuptial agreements
  4. Drafting Family Law Applications
  5. Attending court hearings, undertaking own advocacy
  6. Managing, training, and supporting less experienced members of the family law team

Suitable candidates will have:

  1. Solicitor/CILEX qualified lawyer
  2. 5 years'+ experience within private family law
  3. The ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  4. A motivated and flexible approach to work
  5. Strong knowledge of private family law and court procedures
  6. The ability to work well as part of a team
  7. The desire to be involved in networking and business development
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  9. Full Driving Licence

This is a full-time permanent job working 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch (35 hours per week). A hybrid working pattern will be considered; however, the role involves supervision and training, so this will need to be taken into account.
