Job description

Service Care Solutions are seeking an experienced Solicitor to join the Constitutional and Civil Law Division in the Scottish Government Legal Directorate, providing core advisory services to various teams. As a key member of the team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting and challenging projects, including Bills, legislation, and judicial appointments.


This rate is negotiable starting from a minimum of: £57,701 per annum: LTD day rate: £302.66 (PAYE-INC HOL £257.02 and PAYE EXC- £220.94). The post is for 6 months, with the possibility of a 6-month extension.


Your primary responsibilities will include:
  1. Providing focused and practical legal advice on general civil justice law, with a focus on judicial appointments and conditions of tenure.
  2. Advising on the Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) Act 2008 and the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014.
  3. Working on bill work, including the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Bill and potential primary legislation projects.
  4. Collaborating with the Scottish Government Legal Directorate employment law team on judicial and public appointments.
  5. Gaining experience in working with the reserved/devolved interface, general public law, ECHR, and UNCRC.

We are looking for a Solicitor with:
  1. Scottish practising Solicitor, with Public law experience.
  2. Strong legal knowledge and skills, particularly in constitutional and civil law.
  3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
