What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

1. Joining the M&S Platform team as a Software Engineering Manager, managing the team building the web platform.
2. Supporting the team and directing the technical vision for building reusable pipelines, tooling, build plugins, and frameworks that enhance the developer experience.
3. Being accountable for engineering excellence within your teams, from behaviours to operations, technical direction to solutions in production, and skills and growth to reputation.
4. Cultivating self-management and accountability throughout the team via leadership and thoughtful talent management.
5. Leading alignment with the overarching technical strategy and collaborating with the wider Technology organization.
6. Acting as a platform owner and applying accurate product thinking to enable and empower digital products through data and customer centricity.
7. Collaborating with engineering leadership to ensure maximum alignment and strategic thinking within teams.
8. Line management of supporting Staff and Senior Engineers, driving recruitment and retention.
9. Supporting engineering communities to drive strategic alignment and efficiency.
10. Managing vendor relationships as key technical partners.

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

1. Previous polyglot hands-on senior software engineer experience.
2. Excellent knowledge in modern web or app technologies.
3. Extensive background in software engineering with several years’ experience in a variety of systems and technologies.
4. Experience building and leading teams of highly skilled, senior software engineers that deliver high-quality software.
5. Excellent understanding of system design, software architecture, cloud, and software engineering standard methodologies.
6. Strong understanding of testing strategies and reliability engineering.
7. Excellent people management, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
8. Ability to lead and manage senior engineers and technical partners toward desired outcomes.
9. Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, able to adjust for different audiences.
10. A servant-leadership mentality willing to take ownership of problems.
11. Able to influence people at senior levels and from highly technical to non-technical backgrounds.
