Job description

Software Engineer – Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence Programmes
Location: Gloucester or London

About Us:
At Lockheed Martin, we’re all about pushing boundaries and working on cutting-edge technologies that matter. If you’re a Software Engineer who wants to make a real difference in the world of Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence, we’ve got exciting opportunities for you at our Gloucester & London sites.

But it’s not all about work. We believe in helping you grow both professionally and personally. That’s why we offer flexible work schedules, hybrid working options, and a benefits package that helps you live a healthy, fulfilling life both in and outside of work.

The Role:
This isn’t your typical software engineering job. You’ll be helping to develop innovative, secure systems that safeguard critical digital infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with a passionate team, solve complex problems, and constantly learn new things. Whether you’re focused on one area of software development or love switching it up, you’ll have the chance to specialise in or work across various areas with a key focus on the Cyber domain.

What You’ll Do:
You’ll be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from planning and designing to coding, testing, and deployment. We’re looking for someone who loves to dive into customer requirements, debug tricky issues, and continuously improve software. Whether it’s developing business or mission-critical applications or optimising systems, you’ll be key to creating high-quality, secure solutions.

What We’re Looking For:
We don’t expect you to tick every box, but if you have experience in any of the following areas, we’d love to hear from you:

  • Programming in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript & React, C/C++, or Python.
  • Working with Linux, Oracle/Relational Databases, or MongoDB.
  • Building and testing with frameworks like JUnit or Jest and using Git for version control.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab, Jenkins, Concourse, or even Apache NiFi, Elasticsearch, or Kibana.
  • Agile development experience (SCRUM, Kanban).
  • Building software for the cloud (we're especially keen if you know AWS, or have worked with microservices, containerization, or serverless architectures).
  • DevSecOps is at the heart of everything we do – experience in this area would be a huge plus!
  • If you’ve mentored junior developers – even better!

What’s in it for You?

Aside from being part of an awesome team working on exciting and meaningful projects, we’ll make sure you have the resources and support to continue growing your career. And of course, we offer a flexible work schedule and a comprehensive benefits package to keep you feeling balanced and fulfilled.

If you’re passionate about software development, love a challenge, and want to be part of a team that makes a difference, apply now. We’re excited to hear how your unique skills can help us push the envelope and shape the future of Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence technology.
