About the job

The Platform Products division is looking for a Software Developer to join a team of talented engineers working collaboratively to build and deliver cutting-edge, innovative products that enable the building of scalable solutions for SAS customers. You will join a team building one of SAS’ flagship products - SAS Visual Investigator. SAS Visual Investigator is used around the world by thousands of users at hundreds of customers in a multitude of different sectors such as banking, insurance, and policing. You will make an impact on how customers experience and interact with our software and play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of our products exceed their expectations.

As a Software Developer you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions using modern programming techniques and best practices.
  • Implement scalable and efficient code across the entire application stack, ensuring seamless integration within the continuous delivery pipeline.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including QA, product, operations, and support, to ensure high-quality software delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and maintaining coding standards across the team.
  • Ensure the security, performance, and scalability of software applications throughout the development and deployment process.
  • Address production issues, provide quick resolutions, and prioritize customer experience in all development efforts.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve development practices and product quality.

Required:

  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Server Development Expertise: experience in developing enterprise applications using Java or other object-oriented languages, with a focus on best practices, design patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrable Proficiency in Java: Solid experience in developing applications using Java with a good understanding of language features and best practices for code quality and maintainability.
  • Familiarity with Spring and REST: Demonstrated proficiency in developing robust applications using the Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, and implementing RESTful services that adhere to industry standards for scalability, security, and performance.
  • Database and SQL Proficiency: Strong understanding of relational databases and proficiency in SQL with a focus on performance and efficiency.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and analyze complex technical challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Git Proficiency: Extensive experience using git and git-based repositories such as GitHub for version control, including managing repositories, branching strategies, pull requests, and collaboration workflows to enhance team productivity and code quality.
  • Knowledge of current software trends and emerging technologies: to evaluate their impact on development practices and apply relevant innovations to enhance our software development practices with an ability to self-learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Containerization and Orchestration Experience: including creating, deploying, and managing containerized applications using tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience conducting code reviews: providing clear feedback to improve code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members: Experience fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth, knowledge sharing, and confidence-building to help them succeed in their roles.
  • Project management tools: Experience in using project management tools like Jira for task tracking, sprint planning, and collaboration.
  • Experience in performance testing: Proven track record in designing, executing, and analyzing performance tests to ensure system scalability, reliability, and responsiveness under varying loads. Familiarity with performance testing tools and methodologies to identify bottlenecks and optimize application performance.
  • Continuous Integration (CI) Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CI systems such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Build Tool Familiarity, such as Gradle or Maven: Proficient in build tooling, with hands-on experience in developing and maintaining custom plugins to enhance build automation and CI workflows.
  • Generative AI: Understanding of the current state of LLMs, Generative AI, and their usage.
