As a Software Developer Apprentice at CDL, you'll receive a comprehensive introduction to the world of software development and training from S&A Academy to achieve a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship qualification.

You will develop communication skills to confidently interact with both internal and external customers. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of operational support including incident management and other Service Management processes.

In a nutshell we are the market leading software house in our industry, creating the software, websites & apps for the Insurance & Finance sector across the UK. If you were to go on a price comparison website, approximately 65% of the companies on there are our clients!

Delivery: You will have a combination of study days at S&A Academy, and hybrid working, between your home and our CDL Stockport campus.

Duration: 15 months.

Key Responsibilities

The day-to-day role:

  • You will be actively involved in each step of the software development lifecycle, contributing to the engineering of innovative software solutions for the retail insurance market.
  • Using agile development methodologies, you will work as part of a highly skilled team to analyse project requirements and design secure and scalable solutions.
  • You will build highly tested and well-written code bases, following industry best practices and design patterns, using some of the industry’s most desirable programming languages.
  • You will be responsible for deploying applications onto well-engineered, cloud-based infrastructure and maintaining these applications to the highest standard.
  • You will be working alongside and supported by a team of experienced software engineers and will be a valued part of a highly collaborative, creative team.

You’ll work with people at every stage of their tech journey, from your cohort of apprentices to tech experts with decades of experience. The taught units on the course will complement work-based projects, where you’ll use real business challenges and scenarios from your new role at CDL as part of your qualification.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

This programme is designed with professionals in mind, and this is reflected in our entry requirements. All applicants need to be employed with a supporting organisation to be eligible.

You must:

  • Be 16 or older.
  • Have the right of abode and right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
  • Have achieved or projected GCSE in Maths & English, grade 4 or above (previous Grade C).
  • Live within one hour commute of Stockport.
  • Be flexible and organised, with great time management skills.
  • Think logically with a desire to learn/progress.
  • Enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions.
  • Have good attention to detail, problem solver, and resilient.
  • Have a passion for software development.
  • You have a passion for all things tech and your feed is full of all thing’s tech, software and AI.
  • Be methodical and communicate well.
  • Think logically, willing to self-learn and research, and take a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Bonus points for providing a GitHub repository (even if they’re not finished).

The salary for the role of Software Developer Apprentice pays £20,000 p.a. providing a fantastic opportunity for career progression through CDL’s clearly defined career framework (https://progression.cdl.co.uk/ ).
