Job description

Sitting within a beautiful and secure site, the Defence Academy hosts 2 lakes and is surrounded by acres of scenic woodland. The Academy trains the future commanders and staff officers of all three UK Armed Services and those from many countries around the world. Within the Serco team at the Defence Academy, we are currently recruiting for a Software Developer, who will be responsible for the development and maintenance of bespoke web applications required to support the day-to-day management of the Defence Academy, delivered primarily on the Microsoft Technology Stack. Reporting directly to the Head of IT Development, the successful Developer will be responsible for the full application development lifecycle including third line support and bug fixes.

What we are looking for:

  • C#
  • Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Rigorous and thorough with an attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are required along with good interpersonal skills.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to contribute to the achievement of team goals
  • UX / UI / Usability techniques to ensure an excellent customer experience
  • Microsoft Dot Net Framework / Dot Net Core, ASP.NET / Blazor, Entity Framework, Linq, JQuery, Bootstrap and REACT
  • Use of the Unified Process and UML, and / or working to an agile development methodology
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, adhering to predefined standards whilst working to agreed deadlines
  • Ability to research problems and identify solutions
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
