Social Worker – Adoption Assessment Social Worker

Permanent, Full Time

This post provides an opportunity to assess prospective adopters, support with matching, and provide support to children and their adopters post-placement.

You will be involved in the assessment of applicants who want to adopt. The role includes offering guidance and advice to support adoption applicants wanting to parent a child whose care plan is adoption. You will be involved in the family finding for adoptive families and work closely with other teams within Adopt East to offer advice and support when a child is placed.

What You'll Do:

  1. Assess complex social care needs, offering crucial support to children and families.
  2. Assess prospective adopters and consider their support needs for the task of adoption.
  3. Support adopters with the family finding task, post-placement.
  4. Develop adoption support plans that empower families and build resilience.
  5. Navigate the statutory legal framework, ensuring timely intervention when needed.
  6. Collaborate with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and the voluntary sector to provide comprehensive support.
  7. Champion a relational-based approach, emphasising partnership working.
  8. Communicate assessments and professional judgments clearly, both orally and in writing.
  9. Work with families, communities, and individuals to support strategic aims and promote well-being.
  10. Manage individual and shared targets within the performance management framework.

Your Experience:

  1. A recognised social work qualification and current registration with Social Work England.
  2. Continued professional development aligned with relevant competency frameworks.
  3. Experience in writing assessments, challenging social and family situations within a social work setting.
  4. Strong communication skills with adults and children, building rapport with diverse groups.
  5. Direct work experience with families, showcasing your ability to connect on a personal level.
  6. Proven ability to manage competing demands, meeting required deadlines.
  7. Establishing strong relationships with partners, agencies, and the local community.
  8. Understanding the value-for-money delivery of interventions balanced against need.
  9. Clear decision-making skills to highlight and mitigate potential risks associated with intervention.

This position is open to Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) and Experienced Social Workers. (The starting salary for a NQSW is £31,161 per annum and this will rise to £34,712 per annum on successful completion of the ASYE programme).
