Job description

The Role:

Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases.

As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.

Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.

Moderna's mission is to establish a leading-edge research, development, and manufacturing facility at Harwell, as part of a long-term commitment to onshore mRNA vaccine production for respiratory diseases. This initiative will create a multitude of highly skilled jobs and foster collaboration with academic, NHS and government partners across the UK. We're looking for global experts eager to join us in this endeavour, contributing to a future where access to life-saving vaccines is a reality for all.

Moderna is seeking a proactive and strategic Site Supply Chain Lead to join the Site Leadership Team at our Harwell-based Moderna Innovation and Technology Centre (MITC). This new role will drive all aspects of site supply chain operations in support of both Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Product (DP) manufacturing.

As the facility evolves into full-scale operations, you will transition the supply chain function from startup execution to long-term operational excellence. A key priority will be the on-shoring of critical raw materials and consumables within the UK, aligning with Moderna’s broader network resilience and risk mitigation goals. This high-visibility position will ensure seamless supply continuity, planning excellence, and cross-functional collaboration to meet Moderna’s strategic ambitions in the region and globally.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Serve as the primary site supply chain leader, accountable for all supply chain activities supporting DS and DP operations.
  • Lead local supply planning, production scheduling, inventory management, and alignment to customer and site priorities.
  • Act as the point of contact with Global Supply Chain Planning, ensuring transparency of site performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee site-level S&OP alignment and support product lifecycle changes, technology transfers, and launches from a supply readiness perspective.
  • Develop and execute the strategy for UK-based sourcing of raw materials and consumables, reducing reliance on external geographies.
  • Own and improve supply chain standards, digital tools, and performance management systems.
  • Drive integration of planning with Quality to align material release with production timelines.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing local supply chain team to support evolving site and network needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, MS&T, and Engineering to ensure streamlined material flow and timely issue resolution.
  • Represent the UK supply chain function in network governance forums, ensuring local needs are voiced and aligned with global direction.
  • Contribute to business continuity planning, risk assessment, and long-term strategic supply chain initiatives.
The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:
  • We remove viscosity to encourage collective action.
This role requires the ability to eliminate friction between planning, quality, and operations—ensuring seamless and proactive execution in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
  • We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.
Your leadership in shaping the local supply strategy and securing UK material supply sources will have a far-reaching impact on Moderna’s manufacturing reliability and resilience. You’ll be expected to think beyond the role and own the outcome.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
  • University degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Life Sciences, Economics, or Business.
  • M.S. with 10–15 years’ experience in biotech, pharma, or a related regulated industry; or B.S. with 5–7 years’ relevant experience.
  • Proven leadership experience in site-based supply chain operations, ideally in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end site supply chain processes including demand management, production planning, materials planning, order fulfillment, and master data.
  • Experience with supply base strategy, supplier management, and localization/on-shoring of supply sources.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably SAP, and experience in planning and procurement systems.
  • APICS/ASCM CSCP or equivalent certifications preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration, influencing across organizational levels and global teams.
  • High sense of urgency, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complexity and competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; data analysis and visualization experience is a plus.
  • As part of Moderna’s commitment to workplace safety, this role may require an enhanced pre-employment check.

At Moderna, we believe that when you feel your best, you can do your best work. That’s why our global benefits and well-being resources are designed to support you—at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

  • Quality healthcare and insurance benefits
  • Lifestyle Spending Accounts to create your own pathway to well-being
  • Free premium access to fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness classes
  • Family planning and adoption benefits
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, bank holidays, volunteer days, sabbatical, global recharge days, and a discretionary year-end shutdown
  • Savings and investments
  • Location-specific perks and extras!

The benefits offered may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Moderna and the country where you work.
