We are looking to appoint a School Site Manager to join our friendly team at Coopersale Hall School in Epping, CM16 7PE. Coopersale Hall is a small school with around 300 pupils aged 2 1/2 to 16 and 60 staff.
The successful candidate will have basic DIY skills and should be willing to undertake all basic school tasks including porterage, keyholding, security, maintenance, gardening and decoration. There will also be the requirement to drive the school minibuses.
This is a full time position required to start ASAP. There is an Assistant Site Manager and a wider Group Maintenance Team to assist with projects.
The working hours for the role are 6.45am until 4.30pm during term times and 7.30am until 4.45pm during the holiday periods.
The role includes a contribution to the school’s private pension scheme, 25 days’ annual leave (+ bank holidays) and complimentary lunches and refreshments.
Main Purpose of the Role
To ensure the school site is well-maintained, safe, secure and clean at all times, and to liaise with the Group Maintenance Manager when the need arises for repairs and general maintenance.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
General:
- To support the School Aims.
- To be aware of responsibilities under the School’s child protection policy and to be able to report any concerns to the Head.
- To support the smooth running of the School by helping with practical arrangements relating to day to day running of the School and special events.
- To undertake general maintenance.
- To provide equipment needed for school events such as assemblies, parents’ evening, staff meetings and training days.
- To transport equipment needed for off-site school events, such as the Carol Service and singing to the elderly.
- To help with lunch arrangements by putting up and taking down tables/benches in the School Hall.
- To help the Parents’ Association with special events where necessary, including the annual summer fete.
- To attend special whole school events, including the annual Prize Giving evening.
- To set up any equipment/chairs etc for special events and/or to transport equipment where necessary.
- To move deliveries around the site when necessary.
- To ensure that any litter is cleared promptly.
- To ensure that the School Minibus is safe, has fuel and is cleaned inside regularly.
- To drive the school minibus when required for school trips and visits.
- To assist with the safekeeping and maintenance of School tools and equipment.
- To ensure a suitable level of quality and workmanship is maintained at all times.
Maintenance:
- To be responsible for the care and upkeep of the school buildings and playgrounds, in conjunction with the Maintenance Team.
- To assist the wider maintenance team to carry out a variety of maintenance based projects.
- To undertake other general building maintenance works as directed ensuring a high standard of upkeep and safety.
- To liaise with outside contractors when on site such as plumbers and electricians.
- To carry out decoration and repairs as required.
- To help clear snow from pathways when required.
Cleaners:
- To liaise with the Cleaning Supervisor/cleaners at the end of each day as a handover, eg regarding any lights left on overnight, doors unlocked, alarms not set etc.
- To collate comments from day staff about areas not cleaned properly and pass them to the cleaning Supervisor.
- To inform the Cleaning Supervisor/cleaners about areas where a more thorough clean might be required due to specific circumstances (eg in Early Years).
- To monitor cleaning equipment and levels of chemicals.
- To order cleaning equipment in conjunction with the Group Bursar and Group Operations Manager
- To lock up (or arrange for the locking up of) the site when necessary if the Cleaning Supervisor is unable to attend work.
- To undertake basic emergency cleaning duties in the unlikely event that the cleaners have been unable to perform their duties.
Security:
- To be a keyholder for the School and to help open the site in the mornings ready for the start of the school day.
- To ensure the security of the site and lock up after special events.
- To be vigilant throughout the school day with regard to visitors entering and leaving the site and to challenge unknown visitors when necessary.
- To be available for callouts after hours, as much as is possible, on the rare occasions that an alarm goes off.
Grounds Maintenance:
- To ensure the gardens and grounds look their best at all times.
- To maintain plants and shrubs around the site.
- To de-weed and prune hedges, bushes and lawns around the site.
- To strim and mow lawns as required.
- To use the school equipment to clear leaves from paths and playgrounds on a regular basis.
- To maintain fences throughout the year.
- To help with hard and soft landscaping as required.
- To create and maintain displays in pots and hanging baskets throughout the year.
Health and Safety:
- To have knowledge of the School’s Health and Safety Policy in relation to caretaking duties.
- To liaise with the Health and Safety Officer on a regular basis.
- To take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others around you.
- To help with fire practices and emergency procedures and to attend Health and Safety Committee meetings as required.
- To help complete a detailed risk assessment annually, reviewing and updating as necessary.
