Job description

Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper who has general knowledge of building maintenance procedures and relevant skills such as plumbing, electrical and decorating and the ability to show clients around the facilities is required for Avanti Park School, part of Avanti Schools Trust, based in Frome, Somerset, South West England.

This role is known within the Trust as a Premises and Lettings Officer.

SALARY: £25,467 per annum (Grade 3) + Benefits

LOCATION: Frome, Somerset, South West England (BA11)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week (all year round)

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a dedicated Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper who has general knowledge of building maintenance procedures and relevant skills such as plumbing, electrical and decorating and the ability to show clients around the facilities.

In this varied and hands-on role as the Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper you will take care of the day-to-day running of the school site. From general maintenance and cleaning to site security and ensuring the buildings and grounds are safe, tidy and welcoming, you will be a vital part of school life.

The Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper will also play a key part in supporting school lettings, helping to prepare spaces for events and providing on-site support during some evenings and weekends.

DUTIES

  1. Keeping premises, grounds and car park tidy, swept and free of leaf and litter accumulation and ensuring hard surfaces are free from weeds, including providing an emergency ad hoc response in the event of adverse weather conditions to undertake snow clearance and gritting. Keeping external rubbish bins emptied.
  2. Receiving incoming goods and mail, receipting, sorting and ensuring correct distribution and dispatch. This does not include specialist equipment which should be organised by the responsible department, e.g., art displays, IT deliveries, science chemicals, exam and confidential papers, etc.
  3. Facilitate school lettings by ensuring spaces are ready, presentable, and secured before and after use, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  4. Assist with deliveries, health & safety checks, fire alarm testing, and ensure compliance with school procedures and emergency protocols.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  1. General knowledge of building maintenance procedures and relevant skills e.g., plumbing, electrical, decorating.
  2. Good communication skills; written and verbal.
  3. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Numeracy and Literacy.
  4. Understanding of Health and Safety and security issues.
  5. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  6. Good organisational skills - ability to meet deadlines and make decisions in emergencies.
