Job Title: Site Engineer

Reporting to: Site Manager

Business Unit: Transmission

Role purpose:

The Site Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Site Manager/Project Engineer through tendering, planning, developing and delivering Overhead Line projects ensuring the highest standards of health & safety, environmental and quality whilst ensuring productivity is achieved at all times.

The jobholder will be working on site full time as part of an experienced construction team setting to work and leading overhead line teams and subcontractors to meet project objectives. They will be expected to travel to various site locations throughout the UK.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  1. Be responsible for Safety for yourself, colleagues and others
  2. Lead by example
  3. Ensure all works are being conducted in the correct and safe manner and proactively reduce site hazards
  4. Conduct monitoring and inspections on a routine basis, active reporting of Positive Interventions
  5. Complete project inductions and undertake setting to work briefings
  6. Issuing documentation and permits (e.g. permit to dig)
  7. Ensure works are compliant with all relevant quality standards and records are whole, accurate and complete
  8. Maintain and develop new skills and competencies in accordance with Omexom’s training standards and legislative changes
  9. Undertake Site Manager / Project Engineer duties in periods of absence cover or on smaller projects as necessary
  10. Compile an accurate and up to date daily site diary
  11. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of Omexom and its clients
  12. Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and clients
  13. Work as part of a team to ensure the safe, effective and efficient implementation of operations
  14. Ensure conformity to all instructions stated in method statements and risk assessments
  15. Ensure that accidents, incidents and near misses are suitably reported
  16. Ensure compliance with statutory legislation and public bodies
  17. Ensure all work is completed to a high-quality standard
  18. Effectively communicate with client, landowners and other 3rd parties in a professional manner
  19. Embed positive culture
  20. Proactively identify areas for business improvement to improve safety and efficiency

Person Specification:

The jobholder will be responsible for the safety of themselves and colleagues, and act as ambassador for a strong safety culture within Omexom. This role can be challenging, and therefore the jobholder will be required to respond quickly to changing situations. At Omexom we aim to provide the best possible service to our customers. In addition, the role will involve working outdoors in a site environment in all weather conditions.

Qualifications and experience:

  1. The jobholder must have experience of working in the overhead line construction industry and possess a strong understanding of health, safety, environment and quality aspects and have a sound technical knowledge.
  2. Experience, knowledge and application of the utilities/construction industry.
  3. Experience in a similar role
  4. Industry recognized Engineering or Safety qualification
  5. Experience in the supervision of Overhead Line construction activities including subcontract works associated with Overhead line construction
  6. Experience in dealing with clients, landowners and 3rd parties namely Network Rail, Highways, Environment Agency, DNO’s etc.

Competencies:

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  1. Flexibility to be able to travel to work locations across the whole of the UK, Ireland & occasionally in Europe
  2. Full driving license
  3. Ability to ensure compliance with safety rules and documentation, and be committed to working safely at all times
  4. Possess the ability to work in a time pressured environment
  5. Have the ability to adapt to changing situations and environments
  6. Must have strong communication skills
  7. Must be an effective team worker
  8. Must always represent Omexom by acting in a professional manner

This is a flexible based role with frequent travel and overnight stays as required on projects.
