Job description

Job Title: Simulation & Training - System Design Authority

Location: Portsmouth - Broad Oak. We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa 60,000 commensurate with skills and experience.

What you'll be doing:

  • Act as the Design and Technical Authority for assigned programmes, ensuring design integrity, safety, security, and compliance with all customer and contractual requirements.
  • Technically lead the development and delivery of training systems, guiding design processes, managing trade-offs, and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Engage with external stakeholders and customers to shape and influence requirements, acting as a key technical ambassador for the engineering function.
  • Provide technical support to project managers by advising on risks, trade-offs, and solutions to balance technical delivery with cost and schedule.
  • Lead internal design reviews and represent the technical solution in governance forums, including LCM and external stakeholder reviews.
  • Support R&D, bid and proposal work, contributing to future product strategy, estimating, and technical solution development.

Your Skills and Experiences:

  • A Degree in engineering or a related discipline, with significant industry experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is desirable.
  • Proven ability to define and develop complex, software-intensive training systems, including integration of third-party applications and hardware components.
  • Strong experience in simulation or training systems design, with a good understanding of simulation techniques and virtualised networked environments.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior external clients.
  • Demonstrated success in working with multi-disciplinary teams across systems, software, and hardware domains.
  • Knowledge of Lifecycle Management processes, including risk analysis, reliability, and maintainability principles.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies and how they may influence or enhance future training system solutions.

The Mimesis Product Team:

Mimesis provides a battlespace simulation of the maritime world; from terrain and seabed to weather and underwater acoustics, accurately modelling the movement and behaviour of ships, submarines, and other platforms, and digitally replicating their unique capabilities (sonars, radars, weapons). Our product supports naval training, enables customers to experiment with novel concepts or capabilities, and allows design teams to conduct test and integration of new platform systems and capability upgrades, reducing operational risk.
