Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People

Are you an experienced retail manager who thrives on delivering great customer service? Do you enjoy leading a diverse team, overcoming challenges, and making a real difference? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

Our retail shops are essential to funding this care. With government funding covering only seven weeks of our annual costs, our shops and supporters help keep Rainbows going for the other 45 weeks of the year. As we grow, we're excited to be opening a new shop in Daventry and we're looking for a motivated and experienced Shop Manager to lead it.

Location: Daventry (with travel to the Hospice in Loughborough for Corporate Induction and meetings as well as other shops across the East Midlands)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, working 5 out of 7 days (including occasional bank holidays)

Here at Rainbows Children's Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care and end-of-life support to over 750 Babies, Children, and Young People living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as approximately 3,000 people, including families, siblings, and carers, across the East Midlands. Simply put, we're here to brighten short lives and support families, wherever they are.

Job responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of our new Daventry shop
  2. Lead and inspire your team of staff and volunteers to meet income and profit targets
  3. Maintain high standards of customer service, stock presentation, and shop layout
  4. Work with our eBay Manager to maximise the value of donations through online channels (e.g., eBay, Depop)
  5. Promote and manage our Gift Aid scheme with eligible donors
  6. Attend induction, meetings, and training sessions at our Loughborough hospice and other locations as required

Requirements

Experience managing a retail shop or department
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Strong leadership and team-building abilities
Confidence in recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers
Ability to manage budgets and work toward financial targets
A flexible and positive approach to working in a dynamic retail environment

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience in managing a retail shop or department.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to implement agreed standards of service in the store.
  • The ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers.
  • Able to work towards financial targets and manage budgets
  • Good administrative and organisation skills with the ability to monitor and analyse shop statistics.
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety and Fire Safety and ability to identify potential risks.
  • Effective communication skills verbal and written.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently but flexibly as part of a team.
  • Sensitivity in handling people in difficult and distressing circumstances.
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Able to implement agreed policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Good planning and logistical skills
  • Basic level of computer literacy.
  • Ability to prioritise and deal with conflicting work demands.
  • Able to work flexible hours and cover holidays as necessary.
  • Able to work within professional and confidentiality boundaries.
  • Physically fit and able to carry large bulky items (in-line with Manual handling training).
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
