The Role:
Overall Purpose: To be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Biomass Power Plant at Widmerpool. You will manage all aspects of the Biomass Power Plant to ensure it functions at maximum levels of safety, availability, efficiency and power output.
Special Conditions: Rotating shift pattern that includes weekends and Public Holidays. Requirement to provide shift rota cover as required to ensure continuous operation of the Biomass Power Plant.
Main Responsibilities:
Ensure that the plant is always operated within prescribed Health, Safety and Environmental constraints and guidelines.
Detailed incident reporting and collation of data as soon as possible after any accident/incident.
Emergency Response: ensuring that the team responds correctly to any plant emergencies.
Complies with all safe working processes and procedures.
Ensure that all production tasks are carried out within the bounds of px Limited's Safe Work Processes (Safety Rules, Method Statement/SOP & Risk Assessments).
Provide effective administration and application of Safe Systems of Work and Health & Safety policies.
Ensure compliance with all aspects of the site Environmental Permit.
Familiarity with all operating standards and reporting requirements for the plant.
Carry out first line diagnosis and maintenance activities in conjunction with current procedures in order to preserve the highest levels of safety, environmental compliance, plant integrity and availability.
Comply with and actively participate in Company rules, procedures and initiatives, in particular those relating to Health, Safety, Environmental management and Continuous Improvement.
Keep the Management team well informed of all aspects of plant performance which may impact upon the safe, efficient, reliable and cost-effective operation of the plant.
General Duties:
Day to day operational responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the Fuel Feed, Furnace, Boiler, Steam Turbine, Flue Gas Treatment, Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS), Ash Collection Systems and balance of plant including Water Treatment Plant.
Perform the role of a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) in line with px Limited Safety Rules.
Actively participate in daily Work Control meetings with the site management team.
Assist in the completion of minor routine and breakdown maintenance tasks.
Carry out fault diagnosis and correction on all systems associated with the Biomass plant operation.
Perform operational routine duties as required.
Supervise and deploy manpower as appropriate to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of all activities on site.
Maximise steam production and consequently turbine generator output to ensure contractual minimum generation targets are met and exceeded.
Ensure that the prescribed level of competent personnel is available on shift at all times.
Operate/monitor plant from a central Control Room.
Able to communicate effectively at all levels and produce clear, concise reports.
Provide technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff engaged in work at the Plant.
Liaise with other Company staff as required to provide efficient work scheduling and planning.
Provide effective training and monitoring of shift staff.
Assist in the collation and recording of data required for Regulatory EA and Ofgem compliance.
Assist with the creation and continuous review/improvement of site Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Ensure a comprehensive record of all daily activities are recorded in a formal logging system.
Ensure water quality testing is carried out on both water and steam systems.
Report and log operating plant defects in the CMMS system.
Ensure that high levels of plant housekeeping are maintained.
Carry out other reasonable tasks and duties as requested by management.
