Job description

Daily Functions

  • Shift responsibility for safety, quality & delivery of production.
  • Efficient planning and allocation of the labour & technical teams.
  • Leadership of all shift/daily briefings.
  • Work closely with the Planning Team to ensure daily production requirements are met.
  • To lead on the investigation of all Incidents & Accidents and implement countermeasures after full root cause analysis.
  • Maintenance of the MRP system’s data & its accuracy.
  • Conduct Gemba walks to support the maintenance of 5S standards.
  • Working closely with supporting departments such as Maintenance & the Toolroom, to ensure the efficient prioritisation of any issues.

Weekly Functions

  • Provide feedback to the agency associate provider on performance with the aim of identifying improvements.
  • Continuous review of employee engagement activity with a goal to achieve at least 85 ESAT in the Company Annual Survey.
  • Consistent and accurate reporting on all Operator/Machinery efficiency.
  • Continuous review of and aim to improve both Operator & Machinery efficiency.
  • Lead & Chair regular weekly meetings such as the Production meeting and H&S Shift Meeting.
  • Active absence management of all permanent employees within the shift.
  • Holiday management for all permanent employees within the shift.
  • The maintenance of training & induction records for the shift including ensuring training requirements are fulfilled.
  • Continuous maintenance of JD Edwards & RF Smart.

Other Functions

  • Provide holiday/absence cover for the other Shift Managers.
  • Organising of weekend cover including managing the weekend shift where required.
  • Lead all improvement activities on shift & coordinate with other teams across the business.
  • Conduct performance reviews of all permanent employees and support the performance reviews of all agency associates.
  • Management of all disciplinary issues.
  • Manage labour intake & drawdown based on seasonality.

Candidate Requirements

  • Lean Manufacturing Qualification or 3 years’ experience (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt/ Lean Manufacturing Level 4 or equivalent).
  • Experience of and competent with MRP systems (JD Edwards experience is beneficial).
  • Significant experience managing and line managing large teams (Leadership & Management Qualifications are beneficial).
  • Experience leading a multi-discipline team comprising both permanent workers and temporary associates, including a comprehensive knowledge of the challenges this poses.
  • Significant experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
