Job Opportunity: Service Technician/ Porter
The role requires compliance with the SPCB ICT security standards and may require background checks due to the sensitive nature of the role.
MUST have a full driver’s licence.
The purpose of this role is to provide a comprehensive and efficient porter service within the premises of the Scottish Parliament, ensuring a seamless experience for parliamentary staff, MSPs, their teams, journalists, guests, and visitors. You will be a crucial point of contact for logistical support, ensuring the safe movement of materials, documents, equipment, and furniture within Parliament and other locations as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Porter and Equipment Management:
- Move and set up furniture, television/audio-visual equipment, and IT equipment as directed. This includes assembly and disassembly of equipment when necessary.
- Conduct daily checks of static IT equipment in meeting rooms, addressing minor issues as required.
- Be the first point of contact for minor issues related to office equipment such as printers, fax machines, and multi-functional devices, including replacing toner cartridges, replenishing paper, and clearing paper jams.
Logistical Support and Facility Management:
- Assist in the rearrangement of furniture and equipment within meeting rooms, committee rooms, and other areas for events and parliamentary business throughout the year.
- Build, dismantle, and assist in relocating office furniture as instructed by the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB).
- Facilitate the movement of goods to and from the premises using the SPCB van and other relevant vehicles.
- Ensure the SPCB van is properly maintained, conducting routine safety checks (fluid levels, tyres, lights, etc.) and ensuring it remains in working order.
Transport and Delivery:
- Deliver bulky items or packages (11kgs and above) within the premises and to MSP constituency offices across the Central Belt, Borders, and the South of Inverness.
- Assist with managing the offsite storage facility used by the SPCB, including deliveries, collections, inventories, and organizing storage units.
- Assist with flag flying (raising and lowering flags) for events and other special occasions.
- Move artwork under the supervision of the Parliament’s art curator or specialist contractors when necessary.
Event and Exhibition Support:
- Provide assistance in setting up events, exhibitions, and other activities within the Parliament, ensuring that all logistical needs are met.
- Support the movement of key equipment, documents, and other items at risk of damage during incidents (fire, flood) in collaboration with emergency services as needed.
General Administrative and Operational Support:
- Collect mail bags from St Andrews House, the Scottish Government building in Edinburgh, and deliver them to the mail room at the premises.
- Assist with loading and unloading vehicles at the Holyrood loading bay, including deliveries, contractor vehicles, and event/exhibition equipment.
- Perform other tasks as directed to support the effective functioning of the Parliamentary premises.
Experience:
- Previous experience in facilities support services, ideally within a public sector environment.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle physical tasks, including the safe moving and handling of equipment, furniture, and packages.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and requirements in a dynamic environment.
