Service Team Leader - Payroll and Pension Services

Salary: Competitive salary depending on skills and experience, 10% annual bonus potential, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising with service. There is also an option to purchase a further week’s holiday (5 days), plus company pension scheme with highly competitive contribution rates.

Royal Mail is currently recruiting for a Payroll Team Lead to develop, lead, and motivate a team in the delivery of a professional pensions and payroll service for the Royal Mail Pension Plan and Royal Mail Collective Pension Plan.

About the role:

You’ll lead a team of 12 Payroll Administrators in the delivery of accurate and efficient payroll services in accordance with the Trust Deed and Rules and the UK legislative and regulatory Pensions and Payroll frameworks while delivering all Royal Mail's financial and operational targets.

You’ll engage, develop, and nurture the team, role modeling Royal Mail Group values, ensuring that each team member can maximize their individual potential and ensuring that HR Services has the continued capability to deliver current and future service requirements.

Ensure appropriate controls are in place and operating effectively to guarantee fully compliant delivery of services coupled with analysis of team performance data to drive efficiency.

You’ll manage stakeholder relationships with clients, key suppliers, pension trustees, including HMRC, finance, HR services, internal and external auditors.

About You:

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate that you are an experienced payroll practitioner with a strong understanding of:

  1. Payroll and HMRC rules and regulations
  2. UK pensions, particularly Collective Defined Contribution Schemes, DB, and Career Average schemes
  3. TPR regulations
  4. PASA framework

You should also be able to demonstrate at interview your experience in:

  • Developing, leading, coaching, mentoring, and motivating a large team and delivering a professional, customer-focused service within a commercial framework.
  • Strong numeracy skills and the ability to analyze and interpret data, with a history of driving efficiency.
  • Demonstrably strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven exponent of Service improvement tools & techniques, with a history of challenging the ‘status quo’ leading to the delivery of both transformational and incremental change.
  • Professional payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP).
  • Professional Pensions qualification or studying towards (APE, QPA, PMI or equivalent).
