Service Director / Housing, Specialist Housing and Community Safety

Housing, Specialist Housing and Community Safety Service Director with experience at a senior level in the public, private, or similar sector, technical and staff management expertise within housing and community safety, and good budget management skills is required for a well-established organisation based in Wokingham, Berkshire.

SALARY: £89,723 - £109,637 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Hybrid split between working from home and the office in Wokingham (RG40)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Housing, Specialist Housing and Community Safety Service Director who has experience of working at a senior level in the public, private or similar sector, technical and staff management expertise within housing and community safety, and good budget management skills.

As the Housing, Specialist Housing and Community Safety Service Director, you will hold a key leadership role and be responsible for leading and managing the Housing Operations, Strategic Housing, Community Safety, Licensing, and Environmental Health teams to achieve great outcomes.

In this role, the ability to effectively work across the organisation and with external partners will be critical as you will be leading the organisation's strategic approach and delivery of specialist accommodation to meet social care and children services’ needs - driving out costs and increasing security and quality of housing for those in most need.

You will also be responsible for ensuring an effective joint working relationship with key internal and external partners to further the community safety agenda and Community Safety Partnership.

The Service is at the forefront of the organisation's corporate approach to prevention and demand management, using data and insight to forecast demand and implement innovative cost-effective solutions to reduce future demand, reduce costs, and secure better longer-term outcomes for residents and service users.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant profession, or equivalent experience
• Chartered Institute of Housing Level 4 minimum (or working towards)
• Political acumen and the ability to manage the political interface effectively
• Excellent prioritising, delegation, time management, staff development, and control skills
• In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of housing, community safety, and other legislation, regulations, and standards
• Knowledge and understanding of:
• Developments and challenges facing local government and the wider public sector
• Best practice in corporate governance and service delivery
• Performance management and target setting
• Project management
• Partnership working and stakeholder engagement
• Procurement and contract management
• Commitment to equality of opportunity plus knowledge and understanding at both a theoretical and practical level
• A working knowledge of health and safety requirements
• Proven track record of technical and management expertise across all or most areas of housing and community safety
• Experience of staff management
• Proven track record of working at a senior level in the public, private or similar sector and of successful stakeholder management and engagement
• Proven track record of successful budget management including the implementation of savings, income generation, and efficiencies
