Brief Description

To supervise the train service management within the Wessex Integrated Control Centre to safely deliver the train plan; to meet the differing needs of rail industry customers and stakeholders. Develop and maintain relationships with train operators and other key industry partners.

This is a part time opportunity for 12 months, working a job share at a 50/50 split. Please note, this role encompasses early and late shifts and weekend working and is based in Basingstoke Regional Operations Centre

About the role (External)

1. Working with the Network Delivery Manager, create an engaged and motivated working environment and act as a role model to develop a culture that supports and encourages the development and improvement of Train Service Management.

2. Maintain an overview of train services, particularly during times of disruption, liaising with both internal and external controls and station control points. Co-ordinate Cross Boundary recovery arrangements and determine strategic deployment priorities to maintain an effective network.

3. Supervise the train service management team in the delivery of a safe, efficient and optimal daily train plan for all operators and their customers

4. Manage the performance of the daily train plan, communicating with all operating locations and train operators to make certain that early interventions are being made to minimise overall customer disruption

5. Manage the train service contingency plans, and design and embed a process for plans to be continually refreshed and updated

6. Lead in the application of the train service contingency plans during times of disruption

7. Lead the implementation of the principles of service recovery to restore the network to right time running as soon as practicable

8. Coordinate the dissemination of information with the Information Cordinator in an accurate, concise and timely manner, in accordance with company standards and statutory requirements.

9. Maintain a daily record of all applicable train running information and events, using the available systems in accordance with the relevant company standards and instructions.

10. Lead strict adherence to the Railway Operations Code for the VSTP process.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

Experience of supervising teams within a highly pressurised operations environment

Experience of decision making across the Route

Good negotiating skills and ability to make objective decisions

Appreciation and application of Control based I.T systems

Excellent communications skills

Good operational experience

Able to influence others and work under pressure

A thorough understanding of train planning principles and timetable composition

Good geographical knowledge of applicable route and wider network

Desirable

Previous experience of working within a safety critical communications environment

Experience of working within a control environment

Knowledge of Network Rail and Train Operating Companies across the network and the key aspects of their business

Experience of railway industry operational rules and regulations

Knowledge of railway systems applicable to train service delivery

Have a good understanding of commercial issues and customer flows on train operating companies and neighbouring routes
