Job description

We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong background in safeguarding and the capability to lead initiatives focused on reducing serious violence.

Salary: £46,731 to £49,764 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Location: County Hall, West Street, Chichester, PO19 1RQ (Hybrid and Flexible Working)

Interview Date: Week commencing Monday 20 January 2025

The role will offer hybrid working arrangements where the preference will be 1 day per week based at a County Council Building and there will be opportunities to work from home. There will be a requirement to attend meetings. Final arrangements to be confirmed with successful candidate.

You will need to be able to travel independently around the county, including to areas that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Pool cars and pool bikes available.

The Opportunity

As a Serious Violence Lead Officer, you will work to support the prevention and reduction of instances of serious violence in our communities.

Our work in Community Safety and Wellbeing Team can often feel quite different from the next! There will be some key responsibilities likely to feature in this role, including:

  1. Designing, developing, and adapting practices across front line practice through training and other methods.
  2. Working with partners to engage with communities and residents impacted by serious violence, capturing their voice.
  3. Applying safeguarding and local service knowledge to accurately diagnose complex problems, provide technical advice, research, and implement innovative solutions.
  4. Work as a passionate advocate for the work of the West Sussex Violence and Exploitation Reduction Partnership.
  5. Managing the budget, evaluating funded projects, and meeting Home Office reporting requirements.

About You

We are looking for a committed professional who has the initiative to organise their own workload and has significant expertise in community and contextual safeguarding.

You will have experience of developing strategic plans and associated budgets, as well as translating strategy into operational policies, procedures, and practice guidance.

The successful candidate will have the ability to create succinct, compelling, evidence-based narratives to accompany project ideas.

Educated to post-graduate degree level or equivalent qualification, you will have strong leadership and effective people management skills to provide influence, direction, and support colleagues and wider teams.
