Purpose of the Role:
Web Developer Advocates are focused on supporting the 3rd party developers who are building web applications on top of my client’s browser. You are passionate evangelists for Web technologies as well as vocal champions for developer interests. This is a position for engineers who love connecting with developers and speaking publicly about cutting-edge technologies on conference panels, at user groups, on blogs and with the press with a focus on HTML5, advanced Web technologies, and technologies specific to my client’s web browser and ecosystem.

You also act as a conduit for 3rd party developers to the product team.

Some indicative tasks:

  1. Work within browser team to lead technical community
  2. Plan and execute events both internal and external (including developer events / hacks)
  3. Write and edit blog posts
  4. Work with external bloggers and podcasters
  5. Write software that demonstrates use of browser features
  6. Community management
  7. Liaising with other similar efforts and with the web developer community at large

Skills and attributes:

  1. BA/BS in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  2. Web development experience in JavaScript, HTML, Web APIs, the development toolchain and related technologies
  3. Track record in web software development, such as development of tools and libraries
  4. Experience working in open source projects
  5. Experience working with web standards and emerging web technologies
  6. Relevant work experience, including experience working directly with partners
  7. Experience blogging and writing technical articles with an existing follower base, as well as experience working directly with press and bloggers
