EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As a Senior Water Treatment Scientist you'll act as a key member of the Water Treatment Process team, providing day to day technical advice to a number of our largest and most critical surface water treatment works. You'll be looking after process issues at your works of accountability, and will also monitor process performance via reviews of works trends, thus ensuring we continue to provide the right quality of water to our customers.

The main site that you will be covering is based in Warwickshire. You will also provide additional support to sites in other areas across the UK. The role will be based both in the office and out on our operational sites at Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy. As you'll be travelling between sites the role comes with a car allowance and you'll also be part of an out of hours standby cover rota.

This is a post to cover maternity leave, initially for 18 months.

Some of your key accountabilities will include:

• Reviewing performance of our Water Treatment Works and participating in water quality improvement initiatives.
• Identifying and supporting the delivery of operational efficiencies (chemical, energy).
• Defining the future of our water treatment works by working closely alongside the Process Design Engineers.
• Leading investigations into water quality issues and failures at Surface Water Works.
• Identifying mitigating actions and producing key reports and recommendations.
• Supporting the identification and reduction of water quality risks through DWSP audits.
• Taking a lead role in delivering the environmental compliance ODI CRI and EPA.
• Proactively recognising processes not working within acceptable parameters and completing mitigating actions.
• Completing full root cause analysis and cascading lessons learnt across the business.
• Coordinating the process response to incidents and generating recovery plans.
• Providing process advice to support business improvement initiatives and Communities of Practice (CoP).
• Identifying, developing, setting standards and delivering training for on-site testing and process knowledge development.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE

The post holder will have experience in water treatment processes and issues and has the ability to bring solutions to life. You will need excellent communication and influencing skills, as you will be dealing with people both internally and externally at different levels.

A full driving licence will be required for the role.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is educated to degree level in a scientific discipline and has excellent technical knowledge on water treatment processes. Your ability to prioritise, plan and deliver outputs to timescales will be key. Comprehensive IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Systems, SAP, ESCADA) will be beneficial, along with the ability to interpret trends and understand consequences. Recent experience of commissioning, plant optimisation and providing process support will also help you.
