About the role
As a Senior UX Researcher within the Product Design and Research team at Waitrose Online you'll play a key role in the success of our customer experiences. You will support one of our Product Domains and work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary product teams. Your work will inform product design and development and ensure our user experiences are useful, usable and valuable for our customers. You will be responsible for bringing an understanding of end users to your product teams through proactively and reactively conducting UX Research.
Collaborating with stakeholders, designers and managers in the team to ensure that research is conducted at all stages of the design thinking process. You will work closely with the UX Research Manager to craft project strategies through a broad range of research methods including the undertaking of discovery activities all the way through to prototype testing and live field studies. You'll be able to enjoy conducting a wide variety of research methods from interviews and surveys all the way through to testing in our labs and stores. We expect researchers to be out in stores or fulfilment centres on an ad hoc basis observing the experience and shadowing partners to truly connect with our business.
You'll work with Partners across the entire eCommerce landscape to understand how our business and functions operate to truly empathise with our customers & partners, understand the challenges they face and support our team with developing innovative opportunities.
What will you be doing?
- Responsible for managing a range of projects from discovery to finished product using a clearly defined process at each stage.
- Gathers, understands and interprets attitudes and behaviours of both Partners & Customers in order to inform design, decision-making and product/service development.
- Carries out research across a range of research platforms and identifies the right methodologies, tools and techniques to use at the right time for each outcome.
- Works on a wide-ranging scope of work from digital on-screen interactions through to physical hardware testing both remotely and in our store estate with customers & partners.
- Responsible for helping to set early strategy on upcoming or unknown challenges and working with senior leaders to develop longer-term strategies to drive innovation.
- Regularly presents findings back to stakeholders and teams through different storytelling methods that showcases excellent written and verbal communication and varies the output of research findings for the audience.
- Comfortable handling both qual and quant data and is able to work with others to source and analyse data points to support observation lead research.
- Helps to develop and be part of a community of practice within all our brands and shares their knowledge and understandings with others to help grow research within the entire Partnership.
- Ensures projects are managed on time, to quality and for the best value.
Essential skills you'll need
- Previous experience working within a user research function.
- Experience delivering on a wide range of research projects and at different life cycles, including discovery and generative research projects.
- Knowledge and experience of working with a wide variety of research tools & methodologies such as: User interviews / Diary studies / Jobs to be done / Journey Mapping / Usability testing / Survey creation and analysis / Card Sorting / Competitor analysis / Experience walkthroughs / Lab and instore testing.
- Experience working on different research platforms such as Dscout / usertesting / Lysanna / Survey Monkey.
Desirable skills
- Research, Psychology or Design Related Degree.
- Previous experience working with both onscreen interactions and physical environments and hardware.
- Experience managing multiple projects and timeframes, with project management tooling such as Jira & Confluence.
- Experience with collaboration and design software such as Miro & Figma.
- Previous experience working in grocery or retail-oriented businesses.
