This is an exciting opportunity to help drive the development and expansion of the Geospatial discipline within Ridge by developing a brand-new Underground Utilities Survey team.

We work with a wide range of clients to manage their property portfolios, projects and transactions and due to our continuing success; Ridge and Partners are now looking for a talented Senior Utility Surveyor to join our multi-disciplinary consultancy and to lead a new service offering.

What’s the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to help drive the development and expansion of the Geospatial discipline within Ridge by developing a brand-new Underground Utilities Survey team.

As a Senior Utility Surveyor at Ridge you will benefit from on job learning experiences whilst working on prestigious projects. Our projects include large residential, industrial and commercial schemes with contract values over £30 million to much smaller schemes. You will also work with interesting clients including, large retail companies, local authorities, Schools/Universities, contractors, developers etc together with the option to work on exciting overseas projects.

Given the nature of this role, this is a rare opportunity to help develop and drive a new team which will present brilliant career development and progression opportunities.

What you need to do to be effective in this role

  • Undertaking Utility surveys from start to finish
  • Manhole lifting and recording necessary observations and measurements
  • Locating utilities via electromagnetic locators and ground penetrating radar
  • Total Station and GPS/GNSS observations
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties that may arise
  • Produce Utility Survey drawings and reports
  • Production of CAD drawings from survey data
  • Post processing of GPR data
  • Play a key role in the overall development and expansion of a new Underground Utilities team
  • Implement survey standards and key knowledge of approved documentation RICS Measured building of Land, building and Utilities and PAS128 specifications
  • Inform discussions regarding purchasing/hiring of equipment
  • Promote this new service to the rest of the business and to external clients for business development
  • Mentor and train Junior members
  • Assist with rates and produce fee quotations for GPR surveys
  • Liaise with clients regarding quoting, management of surveys and invoicing
  • Manage and maintain survey equipment
  • Experience of dealing with the survey risks, caveats and exclusions and limitations

The skills and experience you need to have for this role

  • Significant experience, preferably with relevant qualifications
  • Experience of working with various sub-surface mapping techniques including GPR, electromagnetic location and drainage surveys
  • Experience of working to PAS128 standards, collecting and post-processing of GPR data
  • Previous experience of working with land surveyors and topographical surveys
  • Experience of working with AutoCAD
  • The ability to work both alone and as part of our survey team
  • The ability to check and critically evaluate work done by others
  • Experience in quoting/tendering for utility surveys
  • The ability and desire to train others and promote survey best practices
  • Full clean diving license is required - travel for work purposes is provided via company or hire cars

The role requires a combination of working within a team office environment whilst also working outdoors on a range of sites. There is a requirement to travel to sites and sometimes work away from home for stretches of time. Depending on the site and how it is being used you may be required to work shifts or out of hours.
