Senior Technology Lawyer | General Counsel Office | Manchester - Hybrid Working

BCL Legal is delighted to be working on an exciting opportunity for a senior commercial lawyer with a focus on technology to join a leading international law firm in Manchester. This role offers the chance to work within a dynamic environment, supporting a wide range of complex commercial contracts, including those related to technology, AI, and intellectual property. You will work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders, playing a key role in the design and delivery of client-facing agreements and solutions as well as supporting the firm. On this basis, the role is both in-house and client facing in nature with no fee earning or hours targets applicable. This role combines commercial legal expertise with the opportunity to engage in innovative, high-level projects, all within a flexible, hybrid working model.

As a Senior Commercial Technology Lawyer, you will be responsible for supporting the firm's strategic commercial activities, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements. You will also work on complex client contracts, including those related to technology services, such as SaaS, PaaS, licensing, and subcontracting. Your role will require a pragmatic approach to contract management, helping to mitigate risk while ensuring compliance with global policies. You will also be involved in providing training and guidance on legal developments that impact the firm's offerings, particularly in technology and adjacent professional services.

Key responsibilities include:

- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts related to technology and AI, including software and platform agreements, licensing, and service agreements.
- Supporting on the delivery of complex deals and bespoke client solutions, ensuring compliance with global risk policies.
- Developing and implementing risk management plans for client agreements.
- Producing training and knowledge updates for internal teams on developments in technology law.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to provide legal support for commercial activities and client relationships.
- Managing ad-hoc projects and supporting senior leadership in risk management.

Requirements

- Qualified solicitor with 7+ years' PQE in commercial law.
- Strong experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, particularly in technology, AI, and IP matters.
- Expertise in SaaS, PaaS, licensing, and other related technology contracts.
- A commercial mindset with the ability to manage risk and deliver client solutions.
- Experience in advising on data protection, confidentiality, and information security in relation to technology contracts.
