Job description

Senior Residential Child Care Support Worker with previous experience working in Residential Childcare, Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce / Children’s Residential Diploma and good knowledge of Microsoft Office is required for a Residential Child Care Service based in Stepney Green, East London.

SALARY: £14.50 per hour

LOCATION: Stepney Green, East London – 100% site based. The role may require providing support at more than one location.

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Day and Night shift availability - This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early mornings and late evenings. The post holder is also required to work weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays when required.

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Residential Child Care Support Worker with previous experience working in Residential Childcare, Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce / Children’s Residential Diploma and good knowledge of Microsoft Office.

As the Senior Residential Child Care Support Worker, you will plan and lead shifts / daily care plans ensuring children are kept safe and engaged throughout the day.

Working as the Senior Residential Child Care Support Worker, you will help manage, coach and mentor a team of support workers, ensuring that the safeguarding of the Children is of utmost importance.

DUTIES

  • Ensure that all staff are supported to follow the company’s safeguarding procedures.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • Report any issues regarding Child Protection matters.
  • Ensure all staff are informed of the relevant Plans for each child and adhere to them.
  • Ensure that all staff have completed all relevant documents on shift including incident, accident forms, safeguarding concerns, and restraint forms as applicable.
  • Report any Health and Safety issues particularly related to the upkeep of the building and its surroundings.
  • Update children’s relevant plans and personal files and liaise with children’s social workers and internal staff to ensure information is shared and recorded appropriately.
  • Plan and lead shifts/daily care plans ensuring children are kept safe and engaged throughout the day.
  • Ensure that all staff read all relevant communication and records.
  • Ensure that all staff comply with duty rotas.
  • Ensure education attendance is supported for each child or young person.
  • Support young people in practical matters within the home (e.g., cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, etc.).
  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to young people.
  • Explore the consequences of both acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in a positive and non-confrontational manner to enable young people to make reasoned decisions over their actions.
  • Act as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion.
  • Always maintain professional boundaries with all children, staff, visitors, and families.
  • Ensure confidentiality is always maintained.
  • Role model excellent practice by coaching, training and mentoring Support Workers.
  • Attend Team, Staff, Reflective Practice Group and Clinical Case Review meetings.
  • Act promptly, fairly and clearly on any issue involving poor practice from a staff member, ensuring this is clearly documented and reported to the leadership team.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working in Residential Childcare.
  • A motivation to work therapeutically with Children.
  • Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce / Children’s Residential Diploma (achieved or currently undertaking).
  • To be available for sleep-in duties if required.
  • IT Literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to form positive relationships with children.
  • Ability to participate in a range of activities with enthusiasm in the context of the role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Commitment to continued professional and personal development.
  • Calm, approachable manner, adaptable and non-judgemental.
  • Ability to form relationships and understand the importance of mutual interdependence and responsibility to others.
  • Commitment to valuing and contributing to diversity and anti-racist practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and flexible approach to work in other locations, duties and hours.

Preferred Requirements

  • Able to drive with a clear Driving Licence.
  • Experience working in a Therapeutic provision.
  • Working and supporting children with social and emotional needs.
  • Attendance and partaking in child-focused meetings such as CIC reviews.

A clear Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check is essential to this post.
