Senior StatisticianThe DISC, Cambridge, UKCompetitive salary with excellent benefitsAre you an experienced
statistician looking for an exciting new challenge? Join our
Data Sciences & Quantitative Biology team within
Discovery Sciences, where you will play a key role in statistical and computational support for pre-clinical drug discovery. We work collaboratively towards a common goal, applying our quantitative skills to complex biological problems to deliver new medicines to patients.
What you will doYou will primarily work on the design and analysis of in-vitro cellular experiments. Collaborating closely with lab scientists, you will identify and validate drug targets, calculate drug responses, understand mechanisms of action, and develop novel cellular assays for preclinical studies. Typically, we use CRISPR technology to knockout genes and measure the effects (e.g., through image analysis) of how this causally alters cells. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of data scientists and biologists to deliver AstraZeneca's preclinical pipeline.
- Design or influence the design of experiments (DoE) to deliver robust data that will guide decision-making.
- Deliver analytical solutions to address key biological questions using quantitative approaches.
- Explore and find opportunities where statistics and data science can make valuable contributions.
- Collaborate and communicate efficiently with experimentalists and other data scientists to ensure high quality experimental design, trustworthy data, and explainable processes and results.
- Participate in publications, presentations, and academic collaborations.
Essential skills/experience- PhD, Postdoc, or equivalent industrial experience in statistics, mathematics, data science, bioinformatics, or a similar subject area.
- Experience in designing experiments.
- Experience with statistical modelling and data analysis.
- Programming experience with relevant computational tools such as R, Python, or similar.
- Strong interdisciplinary communication skills.
Desirable skills/experience- Design of Experiments (DoE), experienced with JMP or similar software.
- Familiarity with biological data and analytical approaches aimed at deriving insights from them.
