Senior Staff Nurse - Emergency Department

We are excited to announce there is an opportunity for Senior Staff Nurses to join our OUTSTANDING Emergency Department in the heart of East London.

You will be joining a team that is one of the highest performing Emergency Departments in the UK, that achieves consistently good clinical engagement, patient flow and has an OUTSTANDING rating at CQC.

As a dynamic and forward thinking Emergency Department we are committed to providing excellent leadership to our Nursing team. We are currently seeking to employ a Senior Staff Nurse.

We are looking for an ED Nurse with significant experience at Band 5 in the specialty. Evidence of organizational and leadership potential as well as a commitment to teaching and facilitating training is essential. You will also need an understanding of recent developments in Emergency Nursing and be able to translate and implement this into quality nursing care.

You will be supported by a dedicated team of practice development nurses, senior nurses and a strong education ethos. We will deliver a key career pathway and emergency nursing specialty training in order to give you grounding in your career.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their clinical knowledge of ED nursing and be able to translate this into effective nursing practice in a leadership role within this challenging environment. They will need to be highly motivated, energetic, hardworking, proactive, as well as committed to their own professional development.

  • Act as an independent practitioner whilst providing advanced clinical practice in the assessment and management of patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrate an advanced level of leadership and operational management, ensuring nursing and medical staff at all levels feel supported.
  • Independently manage the Department on a shift to shift basis in the absence of a Band 7 Senior Sister.
  • Assist in the development of educational needs of all staff and will act as a clinical mentor to junior staff.
  • Advise on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.

Internal rotation- days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, part time hours considered.

Person Specification

Education /Qualification

  • Registered Nurse
  • Post Registration A&E Nursing Course
  • Post Registration Teaching and Assessing Course
  • ALS course

Skills/Abilities

  • Leadership potential and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to use influencing and negotiating skills to direct own staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to demonstrate good management skills and contribute to the development of the service.
  • Able to give feedback to staff and support them.
  • Able to adapt to and implement change with support.

Experience

  • Substantive post registration experience in accident and emergency at Band 5.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge.

Other Requirements

  • Commitment and adherence to the Equality Act.
  • Capable of carrying out physical activities as required.
  • Able to work flexibly to meet service needs.
