About the Role - As a Senior Speech and Language Therapist, you will work in special school settings, supporting pupils with a range of complex learning needs, including autism and profound multiple learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will have experience working in an educational setting and delivering therapy services at universal, targeted, and specialist levels. You will collaborate with teaching and support staff to ensure universal communication strategies are effectively implemented, fostering a shared responsibility for supporting students’ communication needs throughout the school day.

Working Pattern: 22.5 hours worked over 41 weeks per year (Term Time)

Pay range and compensation package - Salary: £22,681.20 pro-rated based on hours and weeks worked. (Full time equivalent salary is £41,490). Location: Stockport. You will be expected to support the ethos of a wider clinical services and the Together Trust.

Responsibilities -

  • Manage a clinical case load of students, working in collaboration with teachers, class teams and wider MDT.
  • Liaise with parents, families and carers, advising on issues relating to the development of speech, language and other communication skills.
  • Provide clinical supervision to more junior Speech and Language Therapy colleagues.
  • Provide assessment reports and intervention plans for individual pupils.
  • Ensure clinical practice is up to date and based on agreed best clinical and evidence base.
  • Participate in relevant education/training opportunities, read and critically appraise research articles in professional journals and utilise audit and research in daily practice.
  • Maintain personal CPD portfolio in order to meet RCSLT & HCPC registration requirements.

Qualifications - Degree in speech and language therapy.

Required Skills -

  • Evidence of recent professional development.
  • Current registration with RCSLT and Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
  • Experience of using standardised assessments.
  • Experience of working in special educational settings.
  • Experience of working with young people and adults with complex needs including Autism and with profound and multiple learning needs.
  • Knowledge of relevant Speech and Language Therapy assessment and outcome measures.
  • Knowledge of relevant safeguarding requirements and how to help young people with communication difficulties stay safe.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity.

Annual Leave: 27 days holiday plus 8 days bank holidays rising to 30 after 5 years, 33 days after 10 years.
