Base: Kimberworth Place, Kimberworth Road, Rotherham S61 1HE (5 mins from Meadowhall shopping centre)

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist in our friendly and innovative Speech and Language Therapy team. We are looking for a dynamic SLT to provide assessment, advice, and intervention for children with SEN and Autism.

The post holder would ideally have experience working with children with SEN/Autism and preferably have experience working in a school environment collaboratively with educational professionals to help meet the individual child's holistic needs.

It would also be desirable if the applicant had some knowledge of paediatric dysphagia or an interest in gaining these skills, but this is not essential for the current role.

Rotherham is a friendly and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy department. Caseloads are divided into specialist teams to ensure that all therapists working with similar client groups are part of a strong supporting team.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessing and providing intervention for a caseload of children with SEN
  • Work will be predominantly in school settings with regular touch in with other colleagues at our base.
  • To write programmes of interventions for home and school
  • To contribute to any EHCPs for children on caseload
  • To support band 5 therapists within the team
  • To support the Team lead with the effective running of the team
  • To undertake regular CPD and in particular continue to develop expertise in the areas of SEN, low and high tech AAC, and autism
  • Provide training when required as part of the school-based SEN team.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience working with children with developmental Speech and language difficulties
  • Experience working with preschool and school-aged children in clinic, home, and in mainstream and special school settings
  • Experience of delivering training to other professionals
  • Experience or knowledge of paediatric dysphagia

Qualifications

  • Speech and Language Therapy degree
  • HPC registered

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of developmental milestones for children aged 2-18 years
  • Working knowledge of NHS policies, clinical guidelines, and national agendas
  • Understanding of SEND processes
  • Knowledge in using a range of formal and informal Speech and Language assessments
  • Knowledge of strategies that can be recommended to parents to support their child's speech and language needs at home
