Brief Description
Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway.

As part of the DDaT directorate, you have a unique opportunity to enable our customers and industry partner with modern and transformative technology. From the day-to-day IT operations that keep a national railway running, to the extensive delivery programmes that are helping to reshape the railway, we are at the forefront of all of it.

About the role (External)
The Senior Solutions Engineer role is responsible for advisory services to existing and prospective customers across all 5 Regions, 15 Routes, Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and external customers (TFL, HS1, HS2, etc.), producing solutions based on DDaT's product portfolio, with an input into pricing model and quote/order processing.

The role is technical in nature and customer-focused, requiring a clear understanding of Solution Design and the Delivery cycle. Solutions Engineers work closely with various teams to ensure the solutions align with customer requirements and focus on whole life costs to operate.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical consultancy to existing and prospective customers, producing solutions based on DDaT's product portfolio.
  • Engage with DDaT customers to understand their business requirements and translate them to standard products and services.
  • Design solutions for DDaT customers and ensure alignment with network architecture and strategy.
  • Manage stakeholder understanding and expectations regarding the solution.
  • Provide technical solutions consultancy to Telecoms related projects, preparing tenders, proposals, and quotations.
  • Identify opportunities for technical improvements that add value to the business.
  • Work with Product Management and Technology to enhance the product portfolio.
  • Support quote and order processing by clarifying customer requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Experience in telecommunications services, pre/post-sales, and network/service design.
  • Excellent technical skills to liaise with customers and suggest solutions.
  • Practical understanding of telecoms services.
  • Strong negotiation skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with resilience and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCIE).
  • Knowledge of telecoms within the rail or transport industry.
