Job description

Carbon60 are looking for a Senior Vehicle Technician to join a local council and undertake a full range of repairs and maintenance to their fleet of vehicles and equipment. The role will be based in Stoke-on-Trent and is subject to high levels of physical effort as well as sometimes disagreeable conditions.

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge, skillset and experience within vehicle inspection, MOT testing, preventative maintenance and fault diagnosis. They will be able to carry out M.O.T. testing on Class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and complete documentation as necessary. Furthermore, they will have experience with general engineering work, welding, bench work, machine shop tools and fabrications.

Job Description
  • Take responsibility for the safety and roadworthiness of the council's transport machinery and equipment.
  • Completing tasks inclusive of fault finding and diagnostic testing of electrics, hydraulics, pneumatics systems as well as machinery powered by gas, diesel oil, petrol or electricity.
  • Carry out MOT testing on Class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and complete all required paperwork.
  • Complete vehicle diagnostics, repairs and maintenance, vehicle safety inspections on the council's fleet of vehicles including motor vehicles, refuse, road sweepers, gulley vehicles and buses.
  • Test drive vehicles both on or off site to diagnose faults or carry out safety checks.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Valid UK LGV Category C Driving Licence.
  • Qualified MOT inspector/ actively training as an MOT inspector.
  • VOSA recognised Certificate for Large Goods Vehicle Safety/Roadworthiness inspections.
  • Thorough knowledge of M.O.T. Testing, standards and procedures.
  • Hold a relevant qualification in Plant Motor Vehicle Technology equivalent to NVQ level 2/3.
Pay and Package
  • PAYE £25 per hour.
  • Temporary role - 3 months (possibility of being made permanent if proven suitable).
  • Shift Pattern:
    • Week 1 - Monday - Thursday 06:30am - 2:30pm | Friday 06:30am - 2:00pm.
  • Week 2 - Monday - Thursday 08:00am - 4:00pm | Friday 08:00am - 3:30pm.
  • Emergency standby and call out rota.
