You'll manage day-to-day activities across ITU, HDU, Special Care, and Transitional cots, ensuring effective and safe decision-making. In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you'll actively participate in staff management and leadership, leveraging your outstanding communication skills to foster a collaborative work environment. Familiarity with risk, governance, and safeguarding processes is essential to excel in this role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a clinical expert, providing safe and effective care, leading and managing care provision for a total of 28 cots (12 ITU/HDU, 16 Special Care) & 4 Transitional Care cots on the post-natal ward.

You will have extensive experience, knowledge and understanding to be able to act as a resource for the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality, evidence based care and work collaboratively with families and service users to enhance service provision. As a compassionate leader, you will support the team to be the best they can be, supporting their health and well-being, and actively encouraging their professional development.

  • Demonstrate proven change management skills.
  • An ability to perform clinical skills with dexterity.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, policy and procedure and quality assurance frameworks.
  • An understanding of evidence based practice and willingness to lead, encourage and motivate staff to participate in nursing research.
  • IT skills which can be built upon to incorporate the use of hospital administration, information and training systems.
  • Organisation and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Recognised management course or equivalent level of skill gained through experience.
  • NLS Qualification.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Recognised Post Graduate qualification in Neonatal Nursing.
  • Recognised Leadership qualification.
  • Recognised Mentoring and Assessing in Clinical Practice course.


Desirable

  • MSc or MA e.g. completion of modules at Level 7.
  • Recognised workforce planning qualification.
  • Degree in Nursing.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of leading and managing a neonatal unit and neonatal clinical competence.
  • Knowledge and experience of working at a middle management level in an NHS acute area.
  • Experience of leading and managing a team.
  • Knowledge and experience of change management, quality assurance processes and working within a budget.
  • Evidence of development and evaluation of training resources.
  • Up to date and experienced in safeguarding procedure and policy.
  • Passion for teaching, education and practice development and ability to professionally develop individuals.
  • Demonstrates commitment to research based practice and clinical excellence and plays an active part in the introduction of research based change to improve patient centred care.

  • Research aware.
