Main Responsibilities

You will provide in vitro support and scientific input for activities within the Early Oncology, Clinical Immuno-Oncology (IO) group at AstraZeneca, Cambridge. You will apply your passion and deep hands-on expertise in IO to lead activities to further elucidate the mechanism of action of IO agents already being tested in clinical trials. You will be responsible for conducting in vitro hands on experimental work around clinical investigatory IO agents: identifying the most relevant line of inquiry, developing and executing experiments to address key questions arising from clinical trials and/or affiliated with IO candidates currently being evaluated in clinical trials.
  • Using your knowledge of IO, with an emphasis on the tumor immune-environment and T cell biology, to problem solve and establish innovative approaches to fuel understanding of candidate drug activities & potential combination partners.
  • Compile & present pertinent findings to cross-functional global teams in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications (posters & manuscripts) for external communication in addition to supporting documents associated with regulatory submissions.
  • Ability to be agile in thought and research development, and demonstrate strength in independent research while working effectively in a collaborative setting.

Essential Requirements

This laboratory based position within the AstraZeneca organization requires an experienced oncology research scientist whose qualities and experience include the following:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in immuno-oncology, cancer biology or immunology
  • Ability to implement approaches to the therapeutic manipulation of the immune system in oncology settings

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, negotiating and collaboration skills together with evidence of having used these to support problem solving and delivery in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment as a team player, plan and meet timelines
  • Proven track record of success in your research, and experience preparing written scientific reports (e.g., manuscripts) and oral presentations to broad and diverse audiences
