Job Title: Safety Engineer

The role
As a Safety Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be working alongside other highly qualified and knowledgeable engineers to deliver the design and technical capability to provide through-life support of RN Warships, whilst delivering essential technical support to the Support Business growth programme.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Apply safety and environmental technical knowledge and expertise in support of Type 23 Frigates, Amphibious Assault Ships, Landing Craft and Single Role Mine Hunters.
  • Work closely with the Class Output Management teams, directly supporting the Class Chief Engineers.
  • Be responsible for providing Safety & Environmental technical support to the Warships’ maintenance programme, contributing to engineering studies, reports, and proposals with the aim of improving the safety and availability of key systems and equipment.
  • Primarily investigate, prepare and produce authoritative bodies of evidence for capability or sustainment changes to the vessels.
  • Be onboard often, working alongside Ship’s Company, Dynamic Survey Teams, Refit Support Group, and other experts to determine material state of the warships, optimising maintenance regimes and improving safety.

This role is full-time, 36 hours per week and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.

Essential experience of the Safety Engineer:

  • Knowledge and experience on implementation of Safety and Environmental codes and practices in a marine environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of marine systems.
  • Experience in technical problem solving and restoration of design intent.
  • Awareness of maintenance theory and best practices for complex assets.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to articulate complicated arguments to a wide range of stakeholders, as well as authoring technically accurate reports, papers and bid responses.
  • Demonstrate that you can drive projects and issues proactively to completion.

Qualifications for the Safety Engineer:

  • Professionally registered Engineer.
  • Safety & Environmental qualifications and experience.
  • Qualification(s) in relevant discipline, with significant demonstrable experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
