Job description

Introduction

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Establish our REVIT capability within the existing design team.
  2. Develop our REVIT templates and families for our work as lead engineer.
  3. Support our existing technician team as they develop and hone their REVIT capabilities.
  4. Review and negotiate project BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) to ensure that we understand and can comply with contractual requirements.
  5. Lead the structural and geotechnical design for key projects, with responsibility for planning, delivery, financial performance, and stakeholder management.
  6. Set the overall design strategy for structure and foundations, delivering holistic integrated design solutions.
  7. Ensure our designs are optimised for construction, sustainability, and health and safety.
  8. Ensure the completeness, checking, and quality of our deliverables.
  9. Support the development of technical and digital capabilities of the team, including sustainability.
  10. Support knowledge sharing across the wider business, delivering a virtuous circle of learning and improvement.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. BEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering.
  2. CITB Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card.

Experience:

  1. Typically, a minimum of 5 years relevant post-graduate experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Understanding and Practical Application of Engineering:

  1. Comprehensive understanding of basic design tools & methods.
  2. Comprehensive understanding of fundamental engineering principles, physics, and statics.
  3. Comprehensive understanding of actions and load paths.
  4. Good working knowledge of statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes, and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice.
  5. Good working knowledge of design in all mainstream materials (steel, concrete, and timber).
  6. Good working knowledge of proprietary solutions and suppliers.
  7. Good working knowledge of the main temporary works methods & solutions.
  8. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and documentation.

Management and Leadership:

  1. Plan the work and resources needed to enable effective implementation of engineering tasks and projects.
  2. Manage the planning and organisation of tasks and resources.
  3. Execute tasks and projects in accordance with the plan, adapting to change as required.

Commercial Ability:

  1. Manage, prepare, and control costs/budgets of engineering tasks or projects.
  2. Use sound knowledge of main commercial frameworks and have an appreciation of other commercial arrangements.
  3. Demonstrate sound judgement on contractual and commercial issues.
