What you'll do

Working across our network, you will lead and direct the Revenue Protection department, ensuring it is a highly effective and motivated team dedicated to the reduction of fare evasion and ticketless travel.

You will be responsible for delivering and presenting successful results against challenging and rigorous targets set for SE Trains by the Department for Transport (DfT) and working with stakeholders including the Department for Transport Operator (DfTO), Shadow Great British Railways (SGBR) and the Office for Rail and Road (ORR).

This role will be covering a number of Depots across the Southeastern Network, so candidates have to be willing and able to cover the below locations:

  • London Bridge
  • Dartford
  • Swanley
  • Faversham
  • Ashford
Main Responsibilities

You will have multiple key responsibilities in this role that will include but not be limited to:
  • Leading, developing and motivating the Revenue Protection Managers and supporting them to lead their Team Leaders and Revenue Protection Officers, ensuring that customer facing staff are equipped, trained and competent to undertake their required duties.
  • Leading, developing and motivating the Operational Manager and being responsible for deploying resource effectively and communicating objectives.
  • Ensuring the team maintain competence standards through regular periodic assessments of staff in accordance with the current Revenue Protection Strategy.
  • Driving consistent successful performance of the frontline team by empowering Managers and Team Leaders to use the Revenue Protection dashboard and staff key performance indicators contained within.
  • Ensuring Managers maintain colleague performance records, ensuring all revenues and associated documentation are properly and efficiently accounted for, and that all internal controls required are carried out to the correct frequency.
  • Ensuring that Managers recruit and select colleagues as appropriate.
  • Liaising with the training department to ensure that training needs of colleagues are met through the provision of appropriate courses, coaching and self development.
  • Ensuring the team deliver a fair and proportionate response to revenue protection issues including compliance to penalty fare regulations, use of other railway legislation and preparing cases for prosecutions.
  • Engaging widely across the business to implement approaches set out in the Revenue Protection Strategy aimed at reducing fare evasion.
  • Ensuring budgetary targets are met and creative initiatives are developed to meet the Company's aims and business objectives.
  • Operating safety management systems to ensure compliance with Industry and Company Safety Standards.
  • Liaising and negotiating with the DfT, regarding business obligations related to the Ticketless Travel Survey (TTS) and other DfT, DfTO and ORR mandated requirements.
  • Working with the Senior Data Manager and team to deliver the TTS, presenting and interpreting results for the Executive Board, DfT and other DfTO Train Operators as required.
  • Developing, producing, submitting and updating the Southeastern Revenue Protection Strategy and associated documents for the Executive Board and DfT.
  • Responding appropriately to Revenue Protection Business Plan commitments.
  • Acting as the Key Safety Leader for your area of responsibility and being accountable for implementing and maintaining the requirements as defined in the Key Safety Leaders Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibility Statement.

To be successful for this role, you should look to demonstrate the below in your application:
  • A proven track record of achievement in terms of managing a large mobile workforce over a wide geographical area.
  • That you are analytical and financially competent, with the ability to interpret financial statements and complex ticketing data.
  • That you have an excellent understanding of wider societal drivers linked to fare evasion and show good knowledge in relation to studies and research, both nationally and internationally, regarding interventions. (Desirable)
  • That you have an excellent understanding and demonstrable experience in applying revenue protection strategies. (Desirable)
  • That you have good Knowledge of Railway legislation, including successful presentation of evidence (SPOE) and investigations. (Desirable)
  • That you have strong interpersonal skills and are an experienced negotiator.
  • That you have excellent Influencing skills and are able to gain commitment to deliver the desired result through the use of a range of interpersonal skills, focussing on persuasion and negotiation.
  • That you have excellent communication skills and can express yourself confidently and effectively and engage others in open, honest and productive conversations.
  • That you have the ability to produce written documentation for the Executive and DfT, explaining complex and technical areas in simple and clear terms that can be understood by those distant from, but with an interest in Revenue Protection, such as external stakeholders.
  • That you have excellent commercial awareness and understand and can apply commercial and financial principles and view issues in terms of costs, profits, markets and added value.
  • That you are Innovative, creative and highly motivated.
  • That you are able to adapt to changing demands and conditions.
  • That you are able to identify potential difficulties and causes, generating workable solutions and making rational judgements.
