The department

This is a new role to work and collaborate with employment law partners, our Knowledge Lawyers and our Future of Work Hub team to research, produce, write and present content, think pieces and podcasts, with a particular focus on the potential impact of political, social, economic and other wider/longer term trends on the workplace.

The role will bring research skills, political and policy knowledge and strong communication, writing and presenting skills to complement the firm’s deep expertise in employment law and human resources.

The role will support the firm’s employment practice with other research, writing and content production needs to grow our forward thinking and thought leadership to support our strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

1. Agenda setting: Collaborate on shaping a programme of content relating to the potential future impact of political, social, economic and other longer-term trends on the workplace of interest to the firm’s clients.
2. Research: Conduct desk research including academic literature, publications by companies, professional bodies, trade unions, think tanks, governments and the third sector. Potentially also including limited qualitative research with clients. Mostly UK but to include a global outlook, with particular focus on US and EU. Supported by some research resource from our paralegal team.
3. Writing: Edit, author and co-author original and impactful think pieces and reports, working alongside partners and others.
4. Presenting: Produce, script, present and co-present podcasts, working alongside partners and others. Supported by our business development team.
5. Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain contacts and relationships with key stakeholders, identifying opportunities to build profile and collaborate.
6. Dissemination and audience engagement: Maximise the impact and reach for our outputs within our target audience by monitoring relevant metrics, audience engagement and supporting partners to communicate key takeaways to senior people and influential audiences.

Desired experience

1. A track record of high-quality published research, commentary and/or other content on wider and longer-term trends, particularly in the political, social, economic and policymaking domains.
2. A strong record of preparing written outputs quickly and to a high standard.
3. Experience communicating ideas orally such as in podcasts, live online or in-person events, or media interviews.
4. Sound programme management experience, including setting and controlling project deadlines and delivery, working with senior content contributors and stakeholders.
5. Experience in fast-paced, high-performance environments.

Knowledge and skills

1. Excellent written communication and research skills.
2. Excellent presenting skills, including the ability to speak and comment with impact, presence and passion.
3. Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to connect wider trends (particularly political, policy, economic, social and other trends) to immediate HR, employment law and workplace trends and concerns and generate original ideas and thought leadership.
4. Good knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of the UK economic, social, political and policymaking landscape and awareness of the global political and economic landscape, in particular US and EU.
5. Ability to collaborate effectively with senior internal stakeholders, incorporating their input and feedback where appropriate whilst meeting delivery objectives and deadlines.
6. Ability to manage workload effectively and produce high-quality work under pressure.
