The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. The City Corporation acts as Trustee of 10 charities responsible for the preservation of a large proportion of these award-winning open spaces.
Reporting to the Conservation Manager, the Senior Ranger (Waste) will support, manage and be physically involved in manual work while supervising a small Waste and Recycling Team based at North London Open Spaces. This team plays a critical frontline role, providing a clean and safe environment, ensuring a welcoming customer experience while meeting statutory requirements in terms of the Environment Protection Act 1990. The Senior Ranger (Waste) will work collaboratively with other teams in keeping our parks clean and safe, including waste generated by events.
You will be responsible for supporting recycling and waste reduction initiatives while ensuring compliance with health and safety, waste and recycling legislation, vehicle and driver regulations, and administrative record keeping. The role will also involve the collation of data for reports while ensuring that all staff are compliant with routine health checks and driver compliance.
You will need to be physically fit and willing to undertake a range of manual tasks working with diverse waste streams. You should have experience managing a team, including proven leadership ability, and be content to work alone. A full clean driving license and a tractor driving qualification are required. You should have a good understanding of Health & Safety relevant to the working environment and demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced open spaces environment. Good communication skills, the ability to follow company policies and procedures, and the capability to provide accurate updates to your line manager are essential. You should display initiative and work well in a team, be flexible, calm under pressure, and have a can-do approach to working outdoors in all weathers.
