Job Description Summary

Here at South Shore Health, we are seeking a Senior or Staff Radiation Therapist for our Dana-Farber Brigham & Women's Cancer Center in Weymouth, MA. This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus! The first 50% will be paid in the first paycheck, and the second 50% will be paid after successful completion of six months. The ideal candidate is responsible for delivering radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by the radiation oncologist, performing daily maintenance and quality assurance activities on the equipment, and maintaining the inventory of departmental supplies.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  1. Provide patient education in order to maximize patient compliance with his/her plan of care and provide family education when needed.
  2. Monitor patient’s physical and physiological response to treatment and refer patient for appropriate management when indicated.
  3. Demonstrate respect for patient’s confidentiality, modesty, and privacy.
  4. Administer radiation therapy treatment accurately and safely: monitor and report reactions, therapeutic responses, and inconsistencies.
  5. Position, immobilize, and align patients according to the treatment plan and effectively evaluate and solve set-up problems.
  6. Maintain logs and daily treatment records including accurate documentation of all treatment procedures.
  7. Possess knowledge of all scheduling, treatment, and billing procedures involving the ARIA system.
  8. Understand the function of equipment, accessories, treatment methods, and protocols and apply knowledge appropriately.
  9. Work with the Senior Radiation Therapist to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems.
  10. Utilize a quality assurance program to encompass all aspects of treatment delivery and quality patient care.
  11. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development from infant through the geriatric stage of life span. In addition, s/he must possess the ability to assess patient relative data as deemed pertinent to age-specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policy and procedure manual.
  12. Instruct and orient new Radiation Therapists, students, and other staff members unfamiliar with the department and/or specific procedures.
  13. Adapt contingency plans in response to variables which influence workload and/or schedule.
  14. Demonstrate cooperation and responsiveness to all staff members.
  15. May elect to teach in the school of radiation therapy technology.
  16. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled Therapist Staff meetings.
  17. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled continual education activities.
  18. May be an active member of professional organizations; participate in professional activities by attending meetings, serving on committees or task forces, writing and/or presenting scientific papers.
  19. May participate in the clinical instruction and evaluation of the Radiation Therapy Technology students.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Preferred

Must be a graduate of an accredited educational program, or equivalent. A baccalaureate degree is preferred.
Must be registry eligible or hold active certification by the ARRT and have a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of three years experience as a Staff Radiation Therapist at the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center or equivalent preferred.
Participation in committees/working groups/special projects and student education.

Required Licenses / Registrations

ARRT (T) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (Radiation Therapy)
RT (T) - Radiation Therapy MA Licensure

Required Classes/Skills -

BLS - Basic Life Support

Required additional Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Proficient technical knowledge and skill set. This includes, but is not limited to demonstrating efficient knowledge of all equipment, tools, and procedures specific to the assigned area. This also includes demonstrating the ability to effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  2. Proficient in the use of Radiation Oncology IS systems and software, including but not limited to: ARIA, BICS, LMR, ExacTrac & BrainLab, Eclipse.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with physicians, management, staff, patients, and their families.
  4. Effective communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills.
  5. Demonstrate strong customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking, and creativity when resolving issues and conflict.
  6. Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to effectively handle challenging situations and to balance and shift multiple priorities.
  8. Demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information.
