Senior Quantity Surveyor - Energy/Power
Location: Edinburgh (Office-based with on-site responsibilities)
Sector: Electrical / Power / BESS / Substations
Salary: Ranging from 65k - 80k + Benefits
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent + Hybrid working


Overview:
A leading infrastructure and utilities company is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its expanding team in Edinburgh. This newly created role is the result of recent contract wins and sustained growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commercial and contractual aspects of high-value electrical and power projects, providing strategic cost management and ensuring successful delivery from inception to completion.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Management & Reporting
    • Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates and detailed project budgets.
    • Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle and manage cost-saving opportunities.
    • Produce regular cost reports and forecasts, identifying key variances and cost drivers.
    • Analyse performance against budgets and recommend corrective actions as required.
  2. Contract & Commercial Management
    • Manage the preparation, negotiation, and administration of construction contracts.
    • Handle variations, claims, and disputes in line with contractual obligations.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and client requirements.
    • Provide guidance on contractual issues to project teams.
  3. Procurement & Tendering
    • Oversee the tendering process, including preparation of documents and bid evaluation.
    • Negotiate terms with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve favourable outcomes.
  4. Stakeholder Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
    • Provide strategic advice on procurement and cost planning to maximise project value.
  5. Risk Management
    • Identify and assess project risks including cost overruns and delays.
    • Develop mitigation strategies and support project teams in effective risk management.

Skills & Experience Required
• Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying or construction management.
• Chartered status (RICS or CICES) is essential.
• Demonstrable experience managing complex electrical and power projects (e.g., BESS, substations).
• Minimum of 5 Years experience across Power / Energy & Substations.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts and cost control principles.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
• Proficient in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office.
• Highly analytical with attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
