American Express’ Global Commercial Services (GCS) offers a wide range of card and payment programs, expense management tools, consulting services, business financing and cross-border payments solutions to small businesses, mid-sized companies and large corporations around the world. The Buyer Initiated Payments (BIP) is part of the broader Business Financing, Payments and Digital Experiences organization (BFPD) within Global Commercial Services. The BIP team strives to provide flexible and digital financing solutions for business customers of all sizes in lead markets around the world and drive key business outcomes.

Within GCS, BIP supports B2B & International payments, one of the fastest growing segments of our business. We are looking for a high performing and enthusiastic Senior Quality Engineer to join Buyer Initiated Payments (BIP) in GCS at American Express in Burgess Hill.

This is a great opportunity to join a high-visibility, high-priority Engineering team and help sustain and accelerate the growth of GCS charge volume by taking an innovative and collaborative approach to modernize the tech stack in partnership with key stakeholders.

In this role, you will partner closely with our product owners within collaborative scrum teams, in an environment that values interesting technical challenges, using best practice design approaches.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Design, implement and execute end to end testing strategies covering functional, integration, performance and regression testing.
  • Set the direction of quality assurance for our department.
  • Lead test automation efforts using tools like Selenium, Karate, TestNG, WebDriver IO, Playwright, Cucumber or similar frameworks.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines by integrating automated tests, ensuring seamless deployments and faster feedback loops.
  • Monitor and analyze test results, providing status reports and dashboards to leadership and stakeholders on critical initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for quality, security and performance.
  • Willingness to learn and work on new technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to adopt innovative test strategies.
  • Mentor and guide junior quality engineers, fostering a culture of quality first and automation driven testing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in quality engineering and test automation in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Strong expertise in using test automation tools/frameworks/patterns such as Postman, JMeter, Selenium WebDriver, Karate, TestNG and Rest Assured.
  • Proficiency in programming for automation (e.g. Kotlin, Java, JavaScript).
  • Experience in functional testing, system integration testing, regression testing, UI testing, API testing, and browser compatibility testing.
  • Experience in Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in support of modern test strategies.
  • Experience/knowledge with SQL and NoSQL databases such as Oracle, Postgres, MongoDB.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating test automation into DevOps workflows (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub actions etc.).
  • Experience working in an Agile environment and working with key product stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting test results and reports to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers.
  • Experience in Payments domain is a plus.
