Senior Public Health Engineer - High Profile Infrastructure

Job Summary:
Prestigious M&E infrastructure/engineering organisation are seeking a Senior Public Health Engineer to provide Mechanical and Public Health engineering support on a high profile, multimillion rail programme, through design to completion in 2033. This will involve all stages from design, installation, testing and commissioning. You will provide full support to Mechanical and Public Health construction teams to ensure successful delivery from a HSE, programme, quality and compliance perspective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small Engineering team to deliver the design, installation and commissioning of either the Mechanical or Public Health scope of works.
  • Undertake Mechanical and Public Health design review in line with current project applicable HS2, NR, BS, EN and ISO standards and ensure buildability and constructability. Identify any weaknesses or errors in the design that could jeopardise functionality. Ensure HSE best practices are always followed.
  • Manage a 3rd party design consultant in delivering the design deliverables required for the project.
  • Liaise with the main Contractor and Designers to review comments and agree an efficient way forward with resolving design comments.
  • Ensure design risk assessment is compliant with installation parameters.
  • Participate in, and where required chair, HazID, HazOP and HazCON's.
  • Provide engineered solutions to key project problems to satisfy clients' expectations, project restrictions and budget considerations.
  • Manage all associated design registers, meeting minutes, drawing registers etc. as appropriate. Ensure all formal communication is undertaken and managed.
  • Direct liaison with CAD/BIM team to ensure correct drawing modelling to BIM or other standards. Review drawings for clash detection and associated interface problems.
  • Attend, and participate as the Mechanical lead, in interdisciplinary design reviews and checks (IDR/IDC).
  • Develop scope documents for tenders and procurement processes.
  • Attend FAT/SAT to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Support, and where required, carry out the Commissioning of Mechanical Systems.
  • Direct liaison with installation teams to ensure design suitability, works methodology and solve key installation issues/constructability.
  • Work with commercial to track technical or design changes and variances.
  • Collaborate with the planning department to plan design, installation and T&C works. Provide accurate assessments on forecast works to complete and provide suitable readjustments to ensure project programme is maintained.
  • Manage subcontractor works as appropriate including assisting the commercial department in valuation and contract support.
  • Ensure design and works comply with client quality management systems.
  • Keep up to date with all Mechanical, construction and relevant legislation, law, standards and best practices.
  • Train and mentor the Mechanical engineering/Mechanical design team.

Skills and Experience

Knowledge of relevant Mechanical and Public Health installations legislation and standards, BIM and design modelling standards and all other associated standards and legislation.

  • Knowledge of design processes and associated compliance.
  • Advanced MS Office skills including Excel.
  • Utilisation of MS Project or P6.
  • Working knowledge of the following systems:
  • Large HVAC systems - heat pumps, fire rated duct work, staircase pressurisation systems, smoke clearance, potable water, DHW, gravity/pumped drainage, rainwater collection.
  • 7 years of experience within a similar Mechanical or Public Health Engineering position.
  • Previously worked within the infrastructure/construction environment.

Mechanical and Public Health Design

  • Experience with offsite construction, modularisation, pre-fabrication and DfMA.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Engineering Council Registration as Incorporated Engineer.
  • Registered member of IMechE, IET, CIBSE or recognised Engineering Council Institutions.
  • SMSTS, SSSTS or IOSH Managing Safety.
  • CSCS Card - AQP or PQP minimum.
  • Full UK drivers license.
