Job description

Position: Senior Project Engineer

Location: Exeter with hybrid working

Salary: £55-65k neg (DOE), car/allowance and excellent benefits package

Our Client: Is an integrated design and build solution provider operating in the water sector. They have over 1,000 staff working across eight regional centres, primarily supporting six long term water sector frameworks operating both on their own and increasingly in joint ventures and alliances.

The Role: Our client is looking to strengthen their Delivery team based in the Southwest Water region.

You will report directly to the Project Manager and your role will be to manage the design, particularly mechanical, (including challenging solutions and identifying opportunities for innovation), construction, commissioning and putting to work of contracts to ensure they are completed in the most efficient manner to the specification, within the time required and within the tender estimate without risk to the health and safety of all concerned while ensuring good customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:
  1. Input to, manage and update construction programmes ensuring key milestones are met.
  2. Arrange, chair and participate in collaborative planning sessions to ensure critical activities are programmed with all key stakeholders.
  3. Prepare and issue invitations to tender, collate responses and prepare cost benefit analysis with recommendations for award.
  4. Prepare and circulate requisitions to buyers.
  5. Technical co-ordination between engineering and supply chain partners.
  6. Day to day management of site management team ensuring any issues are resolved or escalated.
  7. Review of consolidated invoices, identifying errors and omissions prior to payment approval.
  8. Challenge all stakeholders to identify opportunities for innovation, doing something differently and improving working practices to realise opportunities and minimise risk - both to safety and commercial performance.
  9. Management and coordination of the risk register and provide monthly updates. Assist Project Managers to manage early warnings to variations to risk register with the project management team.
  10. Attend Health & Safety, Progress, Employee Forums and Coordination meetings as required.
  11. Work with the Project Manager, Health & Safety, Design and Construction teams to report on all near misses/unsafe conditions/accidents or incidents.
  12. Preparation of pre-start packs and collation and uploading of collated data to systems.
  13. Work closely with Project Quantity Surveyor to generate cost plans, input commitments and monitor project out-turn costs, reporting to the PM any variations and assist in preparation of mitigation plans.
  14. Champion design liaison meetings.
Experience:
Essential:
  1. Project Engineering and Management experience.
  2. Experience of delivering engineering projects utilising NEC3 form of contract.
  3. Degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or construction related discipline.
  4. Excellent oral and written communicator with the ability to work in close partnership with clients and end users.
  5. Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and regulations including CDM 2015.
  6. Delivery driven with experience of setting and monitoring targets and programmes.
Desirable:
  1. Chartered with a recognised institute or be near chartered.
  2. Water industry experience (non-infrastructure).
  3. Experience of using Primavera P6.
  4. APMP or equivalent.
