Role Purpose

To be the key financial contact for, and support to, a large global project. The role requires the development of a full and in-depth understanding of project revenue stream, cost structure and key risks and opportunities. The role requires the financial performance of the programme to be clearly presented at all levels within the business to both financial and non-financial audiences, thus it is a high-profile position with significant exposure to senior audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring the overall integrity of Financial Reporting for Project Performance:
  • Monitoring labour and overhead performance against budget/forecast.
  • Evaluate supply chain performance relative to budget/forecast.
  • Address specific project issues, including make/buy decisions and cost/benefit appraisals.
  • Presenting Financial Performance:
    • Presenting the financial performance of the programme to both finance and non-finance audiences.
    • Take responsibility for closing month-end accounts and ensuring project accounts are fully reconciled, providing an accurate and fair view of the project’s financial position.
    • Complete the status reporting and all associated reporting for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Supporting Decision-Making Processes:
    • Support decision-making processes and challenge contract performance when necessary, by analysing key issues, trends, risks, and opportunities.
    • Contribute to the estimating process through the development and maintenance of accurate and robust life-of-contract models.
  • Building Strong Relationships:
    • Develop strong and productive working relationships with the wider organisation to ensure information incorporated is correct, current, and fully supported by the organisation.
  • Understanding Accounting Standards:
    • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of accounting and its impact on profitability reporting and potential cumulative catches.
    • Fully understand inventory classifications and the effects of accounting on different inventory categories.
  • Supporting Operational Activities:
    • Supporting quarterly stock-count activities by ensuring diligent and accurate counts.
    • Liaising with external parties (auditors, customers) as required by the role.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Demonstrated commercial awareness with a relevant accountancy background.
    • Proficient in IT, with strong competence in Excel and PowerPoint; SAP experience is advantageous but not essential.
    • Hold a current recognised professional accountancy qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, or CIMA).
    • Self-motivated, eager to learn, and confident when interacting with all areas and levels within the business.
    • Willing to challenge information rather than accept it at face value.
    • Exhibit excellent communication skills.
