Role overview
This opportunity will begin as a freelance role, requiring two full days per week (Tuesday and Thursday). There is strong potential for it to transition to a permanent position after an initial period of 3-6 months.
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role will be our first production hire, creating an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our podcast and video content by overseeing every stage of production. You’ll manage the smooth operation of our brand-new studio setup, ensuring that every project reaches its full potential. This unique role blends creative direction with operational management, where you’ll work with cutting-edge studio equipment, recruit and lead a small freelance production team, and drive both video and podcast production to create outstanding content. You’ll oversee post-production workflows, partnering closely with our in-house editorial team to ensure our podcasts and video content resonates with our audience.
Key responsibilities:
- Freelancer commissioning and coordination: Source, commission, and manage freelancers including audio engineers, video editors, and other production specialists as required. Provide detailed creative briefs and clear project expectations, ensuring freelancers deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Production management: Lead the production process for podcasts and video content, from initial concept development through to post-production and delivery. Collaborate with internal teams to develop creative content ideas, formats, and approaches that align with our content strategy. Create and maintain production schedules to ensure all projects are delivered on time and meet the expected quality standards. Oversee primarily pre-recorded content and some live content, managing streaming, recording, and editing workflows to ensure smooth execution.
- Creative ideation: Work closely with internal editorial and marketing teams to refine creative concepts, storytelling techniques, and visual strategies.
- Budget and resource management: Develop and manage production budgets, ensuring optimal use of financial and technical resources. Maintain studio equipment, ensuring repairs and upgrades are managed efficiently.
- Team and talent liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact, coordinate logistics, including production schedules, call sheets, and equipment setup for both in-house and off-site recording or video shoots. Work closely with our editorial team to support talent, ensuring they are well-prepared and equipped to create compelling content, including pre-shoot briefings, coordinating resources, and addressing both technical and creative needs.
What equipment you’d get to work with:
- Studio production: We use Canon N700 cameras, Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio HD Plus units for video storage, and Blackmagic ATEM M/E Constellation 4K vision mixers.
- For off-site video shoots: We use a Canon XF605 camera.
- Audio production: We use Yamaha DM3 sound mixing desks, Shure SM7dB and Sennheiser EW-D microphones.
Requirements
- You have over 5 years of demonstrable experience managing high-quality podcast and video production from start to finish.
- With a strong technical background, you have the ability to get the very best out of our studio equipment, while troubleshooting technical issues along the way.
- You excel at coordinating freelance talent and managing production teams, ensuring seamless collaboration with internal and external talent.
- You’re a creative problem-solver who will thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment, who enjoys finding innovative solutions.
- You’re skilled in managing production budgets, ensuring projects stay on track financially and within timelines.
- You’re proficient in editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, creating polished and professional content.
Desired skills:
- You’re familiar with project management tools such as Asana, ensuring smooth workflow and communication across teams.
- You are proficient in Microsoft tools, including Teams, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
